Saturday 9: P. S. I Love You

On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, a man fills his lover in on what's going on in his daily life, including that he was in bed by 9:00 PM. Do you have a regular bedtime?
Well before or after the time change?
I try to stay up until after 9, but with the time shift that is awful hard.

2) He reports that yesterday it rained, but all in all, he can't complain. Do you often find yourself discussing/complaining about the weather?
Well considering that just about every weekend it rained during the summer, no. When you’re retired it really doesn’t matter if it rains on a weekend, but I imagine to you working stiffs it does.

3) This song was recorded many times, by artists as diverse as Rudy Vallee (1934) and Bob Dylan (2017). It's endured because the theme -- reaching out and staying in touch across the miles -- is universal. Is there anyone in your life with whom you regularly correspond? If yes, do you prefer cards/letters, emails or texts?
Just my brother and that is getting harder as we get older, and we talk on the phone but do email each other.

4) This 1953 version was a hit for The Hilltoppers. The band members met at Western Kentucky University and took their name from the nickname of their school's athletic teams. What was the name of your school's team?
The only reason why I know it, is because it was over the front page of the newspaper because they won. The Redcoats.

5) The Hilltoppers always performed in W sweaters, for Western Kentucky. Do you own any sweaters, caps or jackets that celebrate your alma mater?
Nope.
Hold it, hold it… yes I do, the license plate frame is “UConn Alumni.”
Did you know that I was on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, but then we were told to take a hike by the UConn Foundation and they did away with the free Alumni Association so they could make millions to support the football and basketball teams.

P.S. Undergraduate: The Tigers, Graduate: Huskies

6) By 1960, The Hilltoppers' records weren't selling anymore. But they continued to perform and in 1970 they became the house band at The Holiday Inn in Fort Walton Beach, FL. They were so popular with tourists that they played at that Holiday Inn for years. When did you last stay in a hotel, motel or airbnb?
A motel… I’m trying to decide what I want to do for Thanksgiving… A) Go to New Jersey to be with my brother’s family. B) Go to my cousin’s dinner which is only a couple of town away. C) Go to a friend's dinner. If I go to New Jersey it will mean staying overnight in a motel and driving on dark unfamiliar roads (The motel isn’t the problem, driving at night over roads that I don’t know is the problem. My cousin’s place will mean driving at dark but I roads that I have driven on for decades, but it still is a problem with headlight glare but at least I know the road.)

7) In 1953, the year this recording was popular, the Eisenhowers moved into The White House. First Lady Mamie Eisenhower was known for her down-to-earth style. For example, she often shared her recipe for Million Dollar Fudge, saying that since it's easy to make and foolproof, she recommended her fudge as the perfect hostess gift. When you're invited to someone's home, do you bring a hostess gift?
I don’t think that I go to anything that formal. I do like to bring a dish to Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. My favorite dish to bring is… Corn SoufflĂ©.

8) Also in 1953, radio personality Arthur Godfrey made news for having one of the nation's very first hip replacements. Have you/would you ever be part of a clinical trial, either for a new drug or medical procedure?
Nope… find another guinea pig! Besides, they don’t want me, too many health problems.

9) Random question -- Do you fold your socks or roll them?
Neither, I throw them into a drawer all mixed together.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  2. I voted too, so I am invested in where you go for Thanksgiving. Let us know. :) I would vote brother for Christmas.
#1!!! I was ready for bed at 6:30PM on Monday night. I made myself stay up for a while though. Time change has been hard for me too. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend. ♥

I voted too. Since it gets dark early I would go to the place that is not a drive away and then coming home in the dark. Tim and I are staying home and having roast chicken as we don't care for turkey. Be well and enjoy yourself wherever you go.

  4. Every time change throws my sleep routine into a tizzy. I've been exhausted this week.

  5. I also cast my vote. Let us know what you decide.

  6. I voted too. I don't like to drive at night. The older I get, the more I want to see my siblings on special occasions. We are all in our 60's and you never know what the future holds.

  7. Time change is the worst. (By the way, your website is being blocked by my virus tracker, I had to find a way around it. It says you are putting out a trojan. I couldn't get here last week because I couldn't find a way to get here.)

  8. I don't drive much at night, either, unless I'm very familiar with the roads. My doctor says it's nothing more than my astigmatism growing worse as I age. No cataracts or macular degeneration. It's a real pain.
