‘Twas The Best Of Times, ‘Twas the Worst Of Times

Well here we have the list of the best and the list of the worst cities for us. I’ll start with the worst.
A new study used 14 criteria to rank cities in the U.S. according to how friendly they are to the LGBTQ+ community.

The study from Clever, the real estate data company, examined criteria including the LGBTQ+ population, gay bars and Pride events, state and local laws, curricular standards, equality scores from the Human Rights Campaign and the Municipality Advancement Project, support groups, LGBTQ-affirming healthcare providers, and even the percentage of residents opposing marriage equality and non-discrimination laws.

Earlier, we highlighted the 15 most LGBTQ-friendly cities in the U.S. and there were few surprises. There were, however, several shocking entries on the 10 least LGBTQ-friendly cities in the U.S.
This is no surprise…
“What stands out in the bottom cities is that they all have particularly low state equality tally scores,” Click explains. “The bottom 10 average a state equality tally score of -3.15, which is 119 percent lower than the average state’s score of 16.7. Seven out of the bottom 10 cities are also in states that have a “Don’t Say Gay” law, one of the most restrictive laws targeting LGBTQ Americans.
Surprise, surprise… Republican states are at the bottom! Who would have ever guessed?
10. Kansas City, Missouri
9. St. Louis, Missouri
8. Tampa, Florida
.
.
.
3. Jacksonville, Florida
2. Houston, Texas
1. Memphis, Tennessee
Anyone surprised? I am not, what about the best of cities?

Over the last few years, state legislatures across the U.S. have enacted an unprecedented number of laws that target LGBTQ+ people and their rights.

These measures, underscored by increasing hostility towards people in the community, have caused many to pack up and move out of their home, seeking a new one in place that offers greater LGBTQ+ protections.

“The multiplying threats facing millions in our community are not just perceived — they are real, tangible and dangerous,” Human Rights Campaign President Kelley Robinson said in a June release that declared a “State of Emergency” for LGBTQ+ Americans.

San Diego is one of those cities, ranking seventh on a list of the most LGBTQ-friendly metro areas in the U.S. by website Clever Real Estate.
So what other cities rate in their scoring?
A full list of the top 15 overall most-friendly cities for LGBTQ+ Americans can be found below:
  1.     San Francisco, CA
  2.     Hartford, CT
  3.     Las Vegas, NV
  4.     Portland, OR
  5.     Denver, CO
  6.     Los Angles, CA
  7.     San Diego, CA
  8.     Sacramento, CA
  9.     Chicago, IL
  10.     New Orleans, LA
The website Clever Real Estate has the full list of cities plus their ratings and Hartford ranked way down on the number of Gay Bars per Capital, down near the bottom with 0.08!

The question is why? Why are there so few LGBTQ nightclubs in the progressive states?

I think the answer is we don’t need them. When there is more acceptance there is less need of a “Gay Bar” when you can drink in a “straight” bar without being harassed you don’t need a sanctuary free from harassment. I think LGBTQ bars are going the way of peer support groups, fading away.
