On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Do you believe you can be a little in love? Or is romance an all-or-nothing proposition for you?
Yes, it is an all-or-nothing proposition for me. (Hmm.... maybe that is why I am single)
2) Cliff Richard sings that he knows it's been a long time since you had fun. Is that true? When have you recently had a really good time? What were you doing?
I have been down in the dumps lately, no interest in doing the things that I liked. Well… a friend on the Cape wanted to know if I wanted to go for a walk at the Wellfleet Bay Audubon Society's Sanctuary… it was fantastic to get back out there with my camera. In this photo you can see the rain coming!
I got drenched! Soaked to the bone. Just south of us by a mile or so they had hail, when I got back to my cottage I had left the windows open… what rain it is all sunny! I mopped up probably almost a gallon of water.
3) Cliff was born in India when it was still part of the UK. When he was 8, his family relocated to Tilbury, an English port town. Have you ever lived near the sea?
Um… yes and I don’t mean my cottage now, but when I was a little tyke growing up, we lived near Long Island Sound, you got to learn when it was low tide just by your nose.
4) In 1958, Cliff became a star in England. He was so influential that young John Lennon said he dreamed someday the Beatles would be as big as Cliff Richard. Yet for some reason, he was never as popular here in the US. Before today, had you ever heard of Cliff Richard?
Nope… never heard of him until now.
5) 1980 was Cliff's most successful year stateside. Both "A Little in Love" and his duet with Olivia Newton-John, "Suddenly," made the Top 10. Do you have a favorite Olivia Newton-John song?
Xanadu
I was never a big fan of hers and the Disco craze.
6) Cliff was once "a little in love" himself. He had a high-profile romance with British pro tennis player Sue Barker. They contemplated marriage, but in his memoir Cliff admitted he wasn't ready to commit the rest of his life to her. Cliff never married but Sue went on to wed landscape gardener Lance Tankard. Have you ever employed a gardener? Or do you handle all the yard work yourself?
Well… I am on my way to the mid seventies (Hint: Olivia Newton-John was born only a couple of weeks before me) and I have a hard enough time just fixing what needs to be fixed around a the house and cottage. On the Cape I found a Property Management company... they have carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and they even do landscaping!
7) In 1980, when we were enjoying "A Little in Love" on the radio, Macaulay Culkin was born. He became famous for the Home Alone franchise. Have you seen any Home Alone movies?
Yes, on TV but I never saw the end of it… I didn’t like it. Not my cup-of-tea.
8) 1980 also gave us the Post-It Note. Today they are available in a variety of sizes and colors, but the original 4"x4" canary yellow Post-Its are still the best seller. Would we find Post-Its in your home or office right now?
I have them all over the refrig and on the door to the garage. The door to the garage are reminder… did you pack your meds? Etc.
9) Random question – You're having a crummy day. Nothing is going right. You run into a casual friend in the grocery store aisle. As you chat, do you think your mood would be obvious? Or could you successfully put on a happy face?
I think… that even though you think you put on a happy face the world sees it differently.
I was mad… really mad… those that knows me know that takes a real effort to get me mad. I was asked to be on a Sunday morning talk show, or as I like to call it the Sunday morning talking heads. It was supposed to be about a bill on changing our birth certificates but it was an ambush, all the questions was on student athletes so all through the show I had my “Happy face” on.

#8 I put all sorts of reminders in my phone
ReplyDeleteOh, the switcheroo on the TV interview is so wrong. I would have had a challenge not having a facial expression reflecting my mood.
ReplyDeleteWow, that TV thing sounds terrible. I am sorry that happened.
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoyed the disco era and went out dancing a few timed. Caught up on some of your post. We stopped buying Chevron. Is your cottage at the beach?
ReplyDeleteIt is about a 1/4 mile from the town beach on the bay side.
