Texas A&M University’s president is stepping down after facing criticism over a classroom video that showed a student objecting to a children’s literature lesson about gender, which led to the professor’s firing.

The resignation of school president Mark A. Welsh III was announced Thursday by Texas A&M University System Chancellor Glenn Hegar, who said it was “the right moment for change” at one of the nation’s largest universities.

Hegar did not mention the video in a statement. But Welsh’s departure comes after the video thrust his campus into turmoil and put him under criticism by some Republican lawmakers, including the state’s lieutenant governor.
What set off this firestorm? Us, the trans community and we never even knew it! In another AP News article they write about how we set off the firings of a professor and staff, and the stepping down of the president of the university.
A professor at Texas A&M University was fired and others were removed from their positions after a video surfaced in which a student confronted the instructor over her teaching of issues related to gender identity in a class on children’s literature.

The firing of Melissa McCoul, a senior lecturer in the English department with over a decade of teaching experience, came after political pressure from Republican lawmakers, including Gov. Greg Abbott, who had called for her termination.
She has been teaching this course for a number of years with no problems and the course catalog mentions what would be covered but this one student put the kibosh on the class and on the professor. The Texas Tribune wrote that,
As the discussion began, one student angled a phone in her lap, pressed record on a video and then raised her hand.

“I just have a question, because I’m not entirely sure this is legal to be teaching,” said the student, who went on to accuse the professor of violating President Donald Trump’s executive order, which recognizes only two biological sexes.

McCoul told the student she disagreed with her assessment, and after a short back-and-forth, captured on video, McCoul asked the student to leave.
You have to wonder if it was all a set-up? She started the recording before she even asked the question!
Those administrative sanctions have raised questions about academic freedom and political influence on campus. GOP officials have heralded the moves as a win against diversity, equity and inclusion programming in public universities, while the university itself has carefully offered some distance between McCoul’s summer course material and her dismissal.
It sure does look like this was all planned out in advance and here is the kricker that makes my think this was a trap...
McCoul’s children’s literature syllabus came with a warning.

“Some of the material in this class might be controversial, and it is likely differing opinions will emerge. You are certainly not required to agree with me (or your peers), or to adhere to any particular viewpoints,” it reads, adding that McCoul insisted on respectful dialogue.
You got that? She knew in advance that this topic was going to be discussed!

How can anyone navigate in today's pollical what will set off a firestorm from the right... look at the fallout from Kirks murder... television shows canceled!  Matthew Dowd a MSNBC analyst was fired for his comments. What will be the next thing that sets the rabble?
