We Can Never Forget Part 1

For many trans people they don’t know our history. We forget that bigotry and these anti-trans healthcare law affect many trans people.

How many of you know who Tyra Hunter is? How about Robert Eads? What about Brandon Teena? You should know all of them!

I first heard of Tyra Hunter back around the turn of the century and Robert Eads a few years later when I saw the movie about him that I posted below.

Lambda Legal writes,
Ambulance workers jeered at and refused to treat Tyra Hunter, a transgender woman seriously injured in a car accident outside Washington, DC who later died from her wounds. The same kind of hate-fueled medical negligence killed Robert Eads, a transgender man with ovarian cancer whom 20 separate doctors wouldn’t treat; one said the diagnosis should make Eads “deal with the fact that he is not a real man.”
Back in 1998 the murder of Brandon Teena didn't make any headlines,

Advocates for transgender rights hosted a Monday night viewing of a 1998 documentary that details the murder of 21-year-old Brandon Teena, a transgender man and Lincoln native, nearly 30 years ago.

Teena was raped on Christmas Eve 1993 in Falls City, Nebraska, and later murdered, along with two others, on New Year’s Eve in Humboldt, Nebraska. “The Brandon Teena Story” features interviews with those involved in the case, including friends, family, community members and those convicted of Teena’s murder.

The ACLU of Nebraska, OutNebraska and local advocate Isabella Manhart hosted Monday’s viewing of the 1998 documentary. The event also included a panel discussion with filmmakers Susan Muska and Greta Olafsdottir, State Sen. George Dungan of Lincoln and transgender author and speaker Ryan Sallans.
And he was murdered in the state that is now trying to make our lives hell on earth!

And then there was Jennifer Gale down in Austin Texas in 2010, Texas Civil Rights Review wrote;
“There was really nowhere for Jennifer Gale to go to protect herself from the cold last night,” said Bier. “The Salvation Army (the only shelter in town that takes in women) would not let her in there unless she was grouped with the men (which includes sleeping with, and showering with, other homeless men). They would make her use her male birth name and completely disregard, and disrespect, her identity as a trans-woman. There is so much to be learned from Jennifer Gale, and so much to be worked on in our community.”
All these anti-trans laws, all this anti-trans political rhetoric takes it toll on us. Perplexity.AI wrote when I asked it: "Has the number of phone calls in America to the Trevor Project increased?"
So in summary, the search results clearly indicate that the number of phone calls and other crisis contacts to The Trevor Project from LGBTQ youth across the United States has increased significantly in recent years, with spikes following major political events that have raised concerns within the LGBTQ community.
All these Republican bills and law banning healthcare for us is causing irreversible harm to trans youth. If they are prevented from taking puberty blockers and go through puberty their bodies will never go back. Your vote in November will make the difference for a trans youth between life or death!
