My Theory

This is my own theory not backed up by any scientific evidence on why I’m trans.

#1 Mother Nature doesn’t make mistakes but she does a lot of experiments in trying to make a better human. She is like a mad scientist tinkering with the controls, a snip here and snip there with the DNA a new diseases is created.  Add some proteins here and we get these crazy cells the multiply like crazy.

#2 My father was 42 and my mother was 38, this is what Perplexity AI had to say when asked “Do older parents have children with more birth defects?”
Yes, research shows that older parental age, particularly advanced paternal age, is associated with an increased risk of birth defects and other adverse birth outcomes in offspring. Here are the key findings from the provided search results:
And then it listed different outcomes.

#3 My mother had 2 or 3 miscarriages before she had me in the late 1940s, do you know what they gave the mother from having a miscarriage? DES.

Perplexity AI:
According to the provided search results, in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, pregnant women were commonly prescribed a synthetic estrogen drug called diethylstilbestrol (DES) in an attempt to prevent miscarriages.
Um… what do you think giving estrogen does to the male fetus?

#4 For seventh grade initiation we had to dress up in a skort, one high heel shoe, and wear our fathers shirt backwards.

#5 With COVID some people died, some people were hospitalized, while for others it was no worst than a common cold. Gender Dysphoria is the same way, I’ve seen some that needed Gender Confirming Surgery NOW! and for some that the itch is satisfied once a month going out with friends.

I believe that Gender Dysphoria is a spectrum, some get bitten a little and crossdress occasionally while others must have Gender Confirming Surgery no matter what. I believe that it is not one thing that causes GD but a combination of nature and nurture which determines out path.

Well that’s my working theory on why I’m trans. That’s the hand that Mother Nature dealt me, it is not the greatest but it is the hand that she dealt me and it is just as good as any other… I’m alive and I want to stay that way. Everyday is a new adventure.

Yes, Virginia, There is a Straight Pride

Just like there is a Santa Claus there is a “Straight Pride!”
Yes, a ‘straight’ Pride flag exists – and it’s as ugly as the politics behind it
In case you were wondering, yes, it turns out that a ‘straight’ Pride flag does exist. More than one, in fact.

LGBTQ+ flags are bold and colourful symbols in the community that represent the array of included identities.

There are a number of umbrella flags, one of the most common being the Progress Pride flag which is inclusive of intersex, asexual, and Two-Spirit identities.

These flags are intended to show that the bearer supports LGBTQ+ rights. Individual flags showcasing different identities are also popular, for example lesbian or pansexual flags.

[…]

The ‘straight’ Pride flag was created as a direct attempt to mimic and troll the Pride flag.

Though the ‘straight’ Pride flag isn’t circulated with any official recognition, the Russian political party United Russia, which Vladimir Putin was part of, displayed the flag on Peter and Fevronia Day (Day of Family, Love and Faithfulness) in 2015.

The act was a response to the legalisation of same-sex marriage in the US earlier in the same year.

There have also been some attempts at conducting a ‘straight’ Pride march – like the 2019 march in Boston led by Super Happy Fun America – though there is no uniform community organisation for national marches.
And of course with having a “Straight Flag” there are court cases…
DPS parent lawsuit demands right to ask teachers to display “straight pride” flags in Denver schools
Nathan Feldman alleges school’s Progress Pride flag display discriminates against his “heterosexual, binary/cisgender” children
The Denver Post
By Jacob Factor
November 30, 2023

A Denver Public Schools parent has sued the district over its policy allowing teachers to display Progress Pride flags in their classrooms, saying LGBTQ+ flags “discriminate” against his straight, cisgender, white children.

Nathan Feldman, whose children attend Slavens School in southeast Denver’s Wellshire neighborhood, on Nov. 10 filed the federal suit in the U.S. District of Colorado that states DPS’ policy supporting LGBTQ+ students is “not inclusive of all students” or of his children, who are “heterosexual, Caucasian, and/or binary/’cisgender.'” The lawsuit comes after his unsuccessful attempts to have what he described as a “straight pride” flag displayed in his children’s classrooms.

The lawsuit alleges Feldman and his children have “suffered irreparable harm directly” because of the district’s policy, and it seeks an injunction stopping the district from enforcing the policy that prohibits the straight flag display and a declaratory judgment on the unconstitutionality of the policy.

[…]

According to the lawsuit, Feldman asked the district to display a flag he described in an email as a “straight pride” flag, a black and white striped flag with a linked male and female gender sign on it, in front of his children’s classrooms to include them, but the district did not respond to his request.
And so the battle for dominance by the closed minded conservatives over the inclusive left continues.

Are You A Groomer?

For half of the people here in the U.S. it is a pejorative for the other half it is a synonym for caring.

I want to be a groomer, I want to help people, I want them to know that there is a safe place for them. I want them to know that someone cares for them.

When a parent accepts their child as trans or gay… that’s grooming and I hope that there are more groomers.

When a teacher uses the proper pronouns… that’s grooming and I hope that there are more groomers.

When a child calls a LGBTQ+ suicide hotline… that’s grooming and I hope that there are more groomers.

When people care for each other it is grooming, and I want more groomers in the world.
Despite billing itself as a “grassroots organization,” Moms for Liberty (M4L) is an anti-LGBTQ extremist group with powerful national connections. Co-founder Bridget Ziegler is married to Florida Republic Party Chair Christian Ziegler, who was recently accused of sexual assault by a woman who previously had a three-way sexual relationship with the couple. In light of the allegations, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a longtime M4L supporter, has asked Christian to resign. One local M4L chapter in Pennsylvania even broke off from the national organization.

These allegations follow years of Moms for Liberty and supporters like Christian Ziegler deploying false and revolting rhetoric about LGBTQ people. This ongoing disinformation campaign, including the use of harmful “groomer” language, is central to M4L’s anti-LGBTQ playbook. It has serious social and political ramifications for America’s 1.9 million LGBTQ youth, who are directly impacted by anti-LGBTQ laws and school policies.
The Republicans are trying make something evil out of caring. The Daily Beast writes,
Under Elon Musk’s leadership of Twitter, tweets linking LGBT people to “grooming” have skyrocketed, jumping 119 percent since Musk’s takeover in October 2022, according to a new report released by the Center For Countering Digital Hate (CCDH).

The study also found that Twitter is making millions from big-name advertisers, whose brands are appearing alongside hateful anti-LGBT rhetoric.

“Tolerance of this content is part of Elon Musk’s business model,” said Callum Hood, Head of Research at CCDH, who helped write the new study. “There is real world stuff happening now that appears to be a result of this rhetoric online.”
The animus that the Republicans are creating against LGBTQ+ people and our allies is all for one purpose that they are willing to life long harm to child all because they want power!

"Save the Children" means to the conservatives for them to grow up as good little straight conservatives and anything other than that goal is “Grooming” of course they don’t see that as grooming.

At 99 years old, Jack Foy is considered the youngster among his group of friends that fought in World War II.

But their advanced age isn’t going to stop them from making the transatlantic journey to honor their fallen comrades on the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

On June 6, Foy – a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge – and his fellow American veterans will join dignitaries and heads of state from around the world to commemorate the approximately 160,000 Allied troops who, eight decades ago, carried out the largest seaborne invasion in human history.

Foy told CNN that he has been to several memorials in France since 2014. The emotional resonance of each trip grows stronger year after year, he said, because these veterans know each trip could be their last.

“We realize we’re getting to the end of our time,” Foy said.

They are not alone.

With major commemorations held every five years, organizers and government officials concede that this year’s event could be the last to involve living veterans, whose stories of the horrors of war have become particularly poignant given that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has brought a large-scale ground war back to Europe for the first time since 1945.

Please, please don't let it happen again... vote.

But since then has anything changed?
Educators wrestle with new limits on teaching Black history
Axios
By Russell Contreras and Sommer Bruga
February 1, 2024

Schools and universities are marking the start of Black History Month today, as many educators across the nation wrestle with increasing limits on what they can teach about racism and history.

Why it matters: New laws in at least 14 states and various restrictions elsewhere — or the threat of them — are leading many teachers to simply mention important figures in Black history without getting into the racism they faced.

Zoom in: In all, lawmakers in 30 states have proposed new restrictions during the past year on what schools can teach about the nation's racial history, according to an Axios analysis of National Conference of State Legislatures data.

Under Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, Florida has been among the most aggressive states in limiting what educators can teach.
In 2022, DeSantis signed a bill that effectively prevents teaching certain concepts related to race, national origin or sex that could make students uncomfortable, calling that discriminatory.
The Florida State Board of Education also approved a rule change in 2021 prohibiting teachings that "distort historical events."
Florida's ban includes material such as The New York Times Magazine's "The 1619 Project," which drew criticism from many conservatives. They saw the project's focus on Jamestown as a starting point for the U.S. slave trade as a slap at America's origin story. Texas has a similar ban.
Unfortunately with this Supreme Courts it is anyone’s call what they will do.
It wasn’t until his senior year of high school that Dylan Holley began to learn about all the facets of Black history. Not just snippets focusing on pain and suffering and victimization but full stories also featuring the contributions, triumphs and joys of, as he put it, “people who look like me.”

“In U.S. history (class), we’re taught to view ourselves a certain way,” said Holley, 17, a recent graduate of Maynard Holbrook Jackson High School in Atlanta.

Last fall, then a rising senior, Holley signed up to take the Advanced Placement African American Studies course, which was being tested out at Maynard Jackson High as part of a national pilot.

“I learned a different narrative when it comes to the history of my people,” he said. This narrative highlighted the African kingdoms that thrived before slavery and colonization, for example, as well as the activists who’ve challenged systemic racism through the modern Black Lives Matter movement. It highlighted the nuances of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech – and the stubborn persistence of the racism that speech 60 years ago described.

OMG! We can’t have Black children learning about Black history they might get uppity!
Opportunities such as these to learn a more inclusive version of the country’s history are, after decades of advocacy and activism, becoming more common in the nation’s public schools. And already, they’re being stamped out.

Republican political leaders in all but a few states (44 total) have since 2021 proposed legislation or policies restricting lessons about race and racism in the United States – what many inaccurately decry as a graduate-level framework called “critical race theory.” As of June, 18 states had such laws on the books, according to an Education Week analysis.
In the link cited to Education Week it reported that even in blue Connecticut the Republicans ...
A bill proposed in 2023 that would have prevented schools from teaching any curriculum that included "biased political ideology" or made students feel "discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of the individual's race or sex" failed to pass.
In another Education Week article reports,
A strong majority of voters want Black studies curriculum and the history of racism and slavery and its legacy taught in K-12 public schools, according to new polling data from the Black Education Research Center at Teachers College, Columbia University.

Results from a nationally representative phone poll of 1,000 registered voters found that 85 percent of respondents agreed that public school students should learn about the history of racism and slavery in the United States and how it continues to affect us today. (When the question was asked again at the end of the poll, it was 82 percent who agreed.)

The poll was conducted by brilliant corners Research & Strategies in August this year for BERC, and featured a diverse pool of participants by gender, race and ethnicity, age, and geographic location. Thirty percent identified themselves as Democrats, 26 percent as Republican, and 44 percent as independent or other. Thirty percent said their approach to political issues was more liberal and 40 percent said it was more conservative.
But the Republicans don’t care what the people think, it is their white Christian nationalist base that they are currying favor for.
Since 2021, at least 18 states have imposed bans or restrictions on teaching topics of race and gender. Within the last year, Florida has particularly drawn national attention after Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican presidential candidate, banned the College Board’s AP African American Studies course and supported new Black history standards that include a clarification to teach “how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.”

In light of such education legislation and policy, the Black Education Research Center wanted to see how a representative sample of American voters truly felt about public education, and its role in teaching about Black history.
The new Jim Crow 2.0 is not just about racism but encompasses all the “ism” and they do it in the name of “Parental Rights” or as “Parental Choice” but in reality it is a way they are trying to get around the non-discrimination laws… we didn’t ban talking about racism but rather we banned it because it made some children feel uncomfortable. We didn’t ban the book because it has gay boys in it but rather it was pornographic.

Boy and a girl kissing = okay.
Boy and a boy kissing = obscene and banned.

TeenVogue writes,
Since the unprecedented anti-racism and anti-police brutality demonstrations in 2020, far-right politicians have responded by proposing bills and enacting laws that limit conversations and teaching of race in public schools. The strategic deterioration of the term “critical race theory” by political pundits like Christopher Rufo has had a ripple effect on how race and history are discussed throughout the country. As of January 2024, 18 states have bans against teaching critical race theory while nine states currently have bills or school policies prohibiting CRT teaching going through the legislative process.

The semantic shift around the legal framework has caused CRT to become a negative umbrella term, in some cases, for most topics that involve race. With most anti-CRT laws written ambiguously, it can be difficult for teachers in places where this subject is banned to decipher which topics and concepts they’re permitted to teach and which could cost them their jobs. For Black History Month in particular, this creates a new set of challenges: Historical events like the Civil Rights Movement may be taught, but in places where these bans exist, those lessons will likely lack the much-needed context of systemic racism, and how it translates to today.

The Republican ultimate goal? Is to create a white Christian nation… you don’t believe me? Well read Project 2025 that is their playbook!

I asked my favorite AI… Perplexity AI: “What does project 2025 say about racism?”

Answer
Project 2025 promotes policies that could exacerbate racism and undermine civil rights protections for marginalized communities, particularly Black Americans. Here are some key points about its stance on racism: Civil Rights:
  •  It calls for the Department of Justice to focus on prosecuting "anti-white racism" by abolishing affirmative action policies and using the Civil Rights Division against governments, institutions, corporations, and private employers with affirmative action or diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies
  • This suggests an effort to dismantle programs aimed at promoting racial equity.
  • It portrays efforts to address systemic racism, like critical race theory, as "anti-white" and seeks to defund schools that teach it
  • It promotes the false narrative of widespread "voter fraud" which has been used to justify voter suppression laws that disproportionately disadvantage Black communities
Rhetoric:

  • Co-author Stephen Moore has a history of making racist and misogynistic comments, such as suggesting Black families are replacing men with "welfare checks" and that increased earnings for Black women make men "financially expendable"
  • Trump himself has vowed to fight what he calls an "anti-white feeling" in the U.S., suggesting policies would aim to protect the rights of white people over other racial groups
Overall, Project 2025 appears to deny the existence of systemic racism and aims to roll back civil rights protections and policies designed to promote racial equity, which could further disadvantage and marginalize Black Americans and other communities of color.

Perplexity AI: “What does project 2025 say about transgender people?”

Answer
Project 2025 proposes policies that would severely restrict the rights and access to healthcare for transgender individuals in the United States. Here are some key points regarding its stance on transgender people: Healthcare:
  • It seeks to block access to gender-affirming healthcare and treatments for transgender people
  • It aims to reverse the Biden administration's interpretation that protects transgender people from discrimination in healthcare under the Affordable Care Act
  • It wants to prohibit the National Institutes of Health from conducting research on gender identity and transgender healthcare
Data Collection:
  • It proposes ending the Centers for Disease Control's collection of data on gender identity
  • It calls for reforming the U.S. Census Bureau to stop collecting statistics on gender identity
Legal Recognition:
  • It promotes maintaining only a "biblically based" definition of gender as male or female assigned at birth, denying legal recognition of other gender identities
  • It urges Congress to define gender as strictly male or female assigned at birth
Education:
  • It advocates for banning any classroom instruction or educational content related to gender identity and transgender experiences
Overall, Project 2025 takes an extremely regressive stance aimed at erasing legal protections, access to healthcare, data collection, and educational resources related to transgender individuals and gender identity. Its policies would significantly undermine the rights and wellbeing of transgender Americans.

Perplexity AI: "What does project 2025 say about a Christian Nation?"

Answer
Project 2025 promotes the idea of establishing the United States as an explicitly Christian nation, with policies and laws based on a fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible. Here are some key points about its stance on making America a "Christian nation":
  • Defining Marriage and Family Based on Biblical Principles
  • It calls for the federal government to "maintain a biblically based, social science–reinforced definition of marriage and family"This would essentially codify only heterosexual marriages as valid, denying legal recognition to same-sex marriages despite the Respect for Marriage Act passed by Congress
Promoting Christian Values in Federal Agencies
  • It advocates for federal agencies like the Department of Health and Human Services to emphasize and promote the "traditional nuclear family" based on Christian values
  • It seeks to reverse policies seen as undermining these Christian family values, such as access to contraception and gender-affirming healthcare for transgender individuals
Establishing Sunday as a National Day of Rest
  • It proposes amending the Fair Labor Standards Act to require workers be paid time-and-a-half for working on Sundays, treating it as a Christian Sabbath
  • The justification given is that "God ordained the Sabbath [Sunday] as a day of rest" based on the "Judeo-Christian tradition"
Promoting "Religious Freedom" for Christians
  • Under the guise of protecting "religious freedom", it aims to enable discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals and those not adhering to certain Christian beliefs
  • It frames efforts to protect LGBTQ+ rights and promote diversity as threats to the religious freedom of conservative Christians
Overall, Project 2025 outlines an agenda to enshrine fundamentalist Christian beliefs and values into federal law and policy, essentially establishing a de facto Christian nationalist regime that would violate the separation of church and state.

Jim Crow 2.0

School vouchers. Here in Connecticut we have Charter Schools instead of voucher they are public schools that operate independently from the traditional public school districts, with more flexibility in areas like curriculum, staffing, and scheduling. However, all laws apply to them. Including Title IX and the non-discrimination laws.
The rapid expansion of state voucher programs follows court decisions that have eroded the separation between church and state.
The Washington Post
By Laura Meckler and Michelle Boorstein
June 3, 2024

Billions in taxpayer dollars are being used to pay tuition at religious schools throughout the country, as state voucher programs expand dramatically and the line separating public education and religion fades.

School vouchers can be used at almost any private school, but the vast majority of the money is being directed to religious schools, according to a Washington Post examination of the nation’s largest voucher programs.

Vouchers, government money that covers education costs for families outside the public schools, vary by state but offer up to $16,000 per student per year, and in many cases fully cover the cost of tuition at private schools. In some schools, a large share of the student body is benefiting from a voucher, meaning a significant portion of the school’s funding is coming directly from the government.

[…]

The programs, popular with conservatives, are rapidly growing in GOP-run states, with a total of 28 states plus D.C. operating some sort of voucher system. Eight states created or expanded voucher programs last year, and this year, Alabama, Georgia and Missouri have approved or expanded voucher-type programs. Some recently enacted plans are just starting to take effect or will be phased in over the next few years.
The question is why is are vouchers so popular with Republicans?

Could it be that the schools can discriminate? Jim Crow 2.0

This is an old article from 2016 but it still is true today.
The Century Project

Among the many concerning consequences of Donald Trump’s election is the very real threat that the American public education system, which has educated generations of school children, will be privatized.

Donald Trump campaigned on a program to employ $20 billion in federal funds to promote school choice, including private school vouchers. Mike Pence has a track record on the issue, having pushed for privatization of public education in Indiana. And Trump’s nominee for Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos, has long championed private school vouchers throughout the country.

One of many causes for concern about private school vouchers—alongside questions of academic effectiveness, access, and funding—is the effect that such policies have on socioeconomic and racial segregation.

[…]

As of 2012, 72 percent of students in private schools were white, compared to 52 percent of public school students. In forty-three out of fifty states, white students in private schools are more likely than those in public schools to attend schools with at least 90 percent white enrollment. In South Carolina, where the gap between public and private enrollment in over 90 percent white schools is greatest, 63 percent of white students in private schools attend such schools, compared to just 5 percent of white students in public schools. But it’s not just in the south where we see large disparities. In New Jersey, 45 percent of white private school students are in schools with at least 90 percent white enrollment, compared to just 15 percent of white public school students.
They disguise it as “Parental Choice” but in truth it is nothing more than racial segregation, private schools can kick out low achievers, LGBTQ+ students. And anyone else that they don’t like because they are exempt non-discrimination laws being a private institution. he National Coalition for Public Education writes,
Private schools that accept taxpayer-funded vouchers often deny admission to LGBTQ students and students with LGBTQ parents. In addition, many teach anti-LGBTQ curriculum. A 2013 study of a Georgia tuition tax credit program found that “at least 115 private schools [participating in the program] have explicit anti-gay policies or belong to associations that condemn homosexuality.”

In North Carolina, voucher programs also fund schools that have explicit anti-LGBT policies. For example, one school's handbook states that it will refuse to admit and will expel students that are "living in, condoning, or supporting any form of sexual immorality; practicing or promoting a homosexual lifestyle or alternative gender identity.”
I know many people who attend private schools, many of them are on scholarships for sports, most of the families are from upper middle class and upper class families because even with the vouchers many lower middle income families cannot afford private schools even with the vouchers. The Ohio Capitol Journal reports that,
Since the most recent voucher participation numbers were released, Dyer did his own analysis of the voucher program, finding “a very different goal” compared to when it began.

“It’s now going to wealthier, white families to subsidize the decisions they’d already made to send their kids to private schools,” Dyer told the OCJ.

In an analysis he posted to his blog, Dyer said ODE data showed nearly nine in 10 new applications to the voucher expansion went to white students, and more new vouchers for high schoolers went to families making more than $150,000 annually than went to families making less.

Dyer also makes an argument that has been made before by those opposing the voucher expansion: increasing private school voucher program causes “resegregation” in the public schools, with the number of white students who are leaving for private schools, vouchers in hand.

“It’s frankly a perversion of the idea behind a voucher, which was sold as allowing poor students, students of color, students who haven’t traditionally had access to private schools, to have access,” Dyer said in an OCJ interview.
The beginnings of Jim Crow 2.0, they are not even saying now “Separate but equal” they given up that lie altogether.

Always remember, that the goal of the Republican party is to do away with public education, their dream is to return public schools to Reading, Riting, and Rithmatic for the lower classes and private schools for the upper class. To criminalize all LGBTQ+ people, and keep women barefoot, in the kitchen, and pregnant.
Florida’s recent struggles over masks in schools augur a terrifying shift in the right’s approach to education policy.
The New Republic
Kathryn Joyce
September 30, 2021

This May, in a speech at Michigan’s deeply conservative Hillsdale College, Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran sketched out a few principles for Republicans to follow. Conservatives, he said, should no longer consider the primary purpose of school to be training students for employment; instead, they should see it as instilling moral values. When it comes to America’s bitterest ideological fights, “the war will be won in education.” And finally, while Republican education policies had played a vital role in advancing “school choice,” the next step was to get so many families to flee public schools that no future administration would be able to undo the damage.

[…]

Democrats responded with an outcry: Conservatives were fulfilling their long quest to defund public education and redirect taxpayer money to private schools. Republicans said that they were merely defending parents’ rights. After all, DeSantis’s executive order, “Ensuring Parents’ Freedom to Choose,” was based on Florida’s new “Parents’ Bill of Rights,” passed this spring to enshrine parents’ right to direct their children’s health care, education, and moral upbringing. (The bill was co-authored by a Florida school board member who is both the wife of the Florida GOP’s vice chair and the co-founder of an anti–mask and vaccine mandate parents’ group that has been protesting school board meetings around the state.)

With One Wish, Banishing Memories Of Jim Crow
NPR MORNING EDITION

As the sun beams down, Dorothy Flood, 75, stands on the steps of the Royal Gorge Route Railroad train, smiling like a 1940s movie star.

"Right there! Then turn around, right there!" photographers call out, jockeying to snap her picture. "Here we go, count of three — one, two and three!"

And with a tip of his cap, a porter offers Flood his hand, and her "Wish Of A Lifetime" begins.

Many are familiar with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization that grants wishes to terminally ill children. Less familiar is the nonprofit group Jeremy Bloom's Wish Of A Lifetime. The organization grants wishes to adults age 65 and older — and recipients need not be ill or dying to qualify.

Dorothy Flood's wish — to ride in a train dining car — is an easy one to make come true.
Why was the ride so important to her? Because when she was little Blacks could not ride there in the dinning car… the Supreme Court struck down the ban on Blacks being forced out of the dinning cars.
Crossing The Mason-Dixon Line

Flood grew up in ethnically diverse Jersey City, N.J. But traveling by train to North Carolina each summer with her grandmother was like traveling to another country.

"When we'd get to Baltimore, that was the Mason-Dixon Line," Flood says. "The African-Americans would go in the back ... and white people would go into separate cars."

Flood and her grandmother — and many of the other black passengers — carried their food in shoe boxes.

"I guess that was the easiest thing to carry them in. And every shoe box would have fried chicken, pound cake ... a hard-boiled egg and fruit," Flood says. "And to this day it's the best fried chicken I ever had."

But while the food was good, the child, whose parents had been killed in a car accident, couldn't grasp why she and her grandmother couldn't eat in the dining car.
Now down in Florida school children cannot read about this because it will make some children uncomfortable to hear. Woke is banned… teaching Black history is banned, talking about LGBTQ+ topics is banned.

Uprising Or Riot Or Rebellion?

The straight media calls it a “Riot” we call it an “Uprising”
The Merriam-Webster dictionary:
Riot
a
: a violent public disorder
specifically : a tumultuous disturbance of the public peace by three or more persons assembled together and acting with a common intent
b
: public violence, tumult, or disorder
2
: a random or disorderly profusion
the woods were a riot of color
3
: one that is wildly amusing
the new comedy is a riot

Uprising
as in revolt
open fighting against authority (as one's own government)
*****
It really your point of view, when the oppressed community shakes off the yoke of oppression: the oppressed sees it as an uprising while the oppressors sees it as a riot.

I asked Perplexity AI: Was stonewall a riot or an uprising?
Answer
The Stonewall events were widely referred to as "riots" initially, but many now consider the term "uprising" or "rebellion" to be more accurate and respectful descriptions. The key points are:
  • The confrontations between LGBTQ+ patrons and police at the Stonewall Inn in June 1969 sparked days of protests and clashes, marking a pivotal moment in the LGBTQ+ rights movement. [1, 3, & 4]
  • While early media reports labeled it a "riot", this term was often used by police to justify their use of force against the LGBTQ+ community. Many participants and historians prefer the terms "uprising" or "rebellion" to highlight the resistance against systemic oppression and discrimination. [3]
  • The Stonewall Veterans' Association explicitly stated their opposition to the word "riot", saying "The rebellion (it was never a 'riot') lasted five inconsecutive nights (they were not 'riots')." [3]
  • Terms like "uprising" and "rebellion" suggest a more organized and purposeful resistance to oppression, as opposed to a senseless or irrational "riot". [2]
  • While not the first protest against LGBTQ+ discrimination, Stonewall marked a shift towards more radical activism and galvanized the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement in the United States. [1 & 4]
So in summary, while initially labeled "riots", the events at Stonewall are now more accurately and respectfully referred to as an "uprising" or "rebellion" by LGBTQ+ historians and activists, highlighting their significance as an act of resistance against systemic injustice.

  5. A Brief History of Civil Rights in the United States: The Stonewall Riots

The second reference attracted my attention.
The Stonewall Inn has become to the modern LGBT rights movement what Lexington and Concord were to the American Revolution. But while there is broad agreement that something seismic happened there one fateful night in 1969, there is little consensus on anything else — including how people should talk about it. After police raided the New York City bar and sparked protest from patrons, were there riots? Was there an uprising? Was it a rebellion?

This is not just a matter for copy editors. The terminology that people use shapes how historical events are perceived, from the way they came to happen to why they matter. That’s why, for instance, some Southerners have called the Civil War the War of Northern Aggression and why some Catholic textbooks offer lessons about the Protestant Revolt rather than the Protestant Reformation. Disagreements over what to call Stonewall reflect different conceptions of what it was. “There has been a debate about the meaning of Stonewall,” says Columbia University history professor George Chauncey, “from the very beginning.”

The name that we give it is very important, we were shaking off the confinement of oppression. We had to be in the shadows, we could lose our family, our job, our home, we could be arrested, and we could even be locked up in an insane asylum where they electrically shocked your brain to cure you of being “GAY.”
Back in 1969, calling Stonewall a “riot” was, in some ways, strategic. The event was disruptive and violent. When police raided the Stonewall Inn, LGBT bar patrons pushed back, throwing coins at police, liberating detainees from custody and attempting to light the bar on fire while police were still inside. Parking meters were uprooted, stones were thrown and several nights of protests, involving thousands of people, followed.
The looting, the burning of Black neighborhoods in 1960s and 1970s were also uprisings from the oppression. When oppressed people rise up and say “Enough” the oppressors calls it rioting and we don’t get to name it.
That is likely why outlets like the New York Times used what today may seem like diminishing language, characterizing Stonewall as a “melee” or “near-riot” when it first happened. The gay press, by contrast, started calling Stonewall a “riot” almost immediately.
But you do know that the Stonewall Uprising was not the first time we stood up and said enough it enough!

Before the Stonewall Uprising there was…
1959: Cooper’s Do-nuts
1965: Dewey’s Lunch Counter
1966: Compton’s Cafeteria
1967: The Black Cat Cafe
1969: The Stonewall Uprising!

In addition to Bysiewicz, U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, State Treasurer Erick Russell, Comptroller Sean Scanlon, Attorney General William Tong, State Rep. Manny Sanchez, New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart and members of New Britain Pride were slated to attend the event.

As state and local officials gathered outside New Britain City Hall Monday morning to celebrate the first week of Pride Month, a group of pro-Palestinian LGBTQ+ protesters disrupted the city’s Pride flag-raising ceremony, demanding that certain leaders on the guest list leave.

Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz described the scene as protesters surrounded the flagpole refusing to leave. After negotiating with event organizers, Bysiewicz said the group left the flag pole but continued to chant as the New Britain as the ceremony carried on.

However Congresswoman Hayes left early,
“As an ally and supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community, I recognize events like this flag raising as a celebration and acknowledgment of their struggle and the contributions they continue to make in our communities,” Hayes said in a statement posted on Instagram. “Today was not about me so I left the event as an attempt to minimize disruptions and allow their ceremony to continue.”
The group that were protesting…
The protesters, who describe themselves as a “loose cohort of LGBTQ+ individuals and allies,” said they are calling on “all Pride event organizers and participants to firmly refuse to give a platform to pro-genocide politicians.”

Wait A Minute… Isn’t That Bribery?

We there be another criminal trial in Trump future, for bribery of witnesses?
Multiple Trump Witnesses Have Received Significant Financial Benefits From His Businesses, Campaign
Witnesses in the various criminal cases against the former president have gotten pay raises, new jobs and more. If any benefits were intended to influence testimony, that could be a crime.

Nine witnesses in the criminal cases against former President Donald Trump have received significant financial benefits, including large raises from his campaign, severance packages, new jobs, and a grant of shares and cash from Trump’s media company.

The benefits have flowed from Trump’s businesses and campaign committees, according to a ProPublica analysis of public disclosures, court records and securities filings. One campaign aide had his average monthly pay double, from $26,000 to $53,500. Another employee got a $2 million severance package barring him from voluntarily cooperating with law enforcement. And one of the campaign’s top officials had her daughter hired onto the campaign staff, where she is now the fourth-highest-paid employee.

These pay increases and other benefits often came at delicate moments in the legal proceedings against Trump. One aide who was given a plum position on the board of Trump’s social media company, for example, got the seat after he was subpoenaed but before he testified.

He'll give you time if you're big or small

Another shady deal by a shady person.
Even if the perks were not intended to influence witnesses, they could prove troublesome for Trump in any future trials. Prosecutors could point to the benefits to undermine the credibility of those aides on the witness stand.

“It feels very shady, especially as you detect a pattern. … I would worry about it having a corrupt influence,” Barbara McQuade, a former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, said after hearing from ProPublica about benefits provided to potential Trump witnesses.
I wouldn't put it past the shyster.

It's just about ready to do that thing
I don't want no tears, I don't want no lies
Above all, I don't want no alibis
This Judge is hip, and that ain't all

In response to questions from ProPublica, a Trump campaign official said that any raises or other benefits provided to witnesses were the result of their taking on more work due to the campaign or his legal cases heating up, or because they took on new duties.
That is the thing it would be awful hard to prove in court but it sure does cast some strange light on the court cases on some shady dealing. The Cardinal and Pine reported...
But despite these legal barriers, lawyers like former US attorney Barbara McQuade told ProPublica the pattern detected among Trump witnesses “feels very shady.”

While there’s no evidence that Trump himself directly authorized payments or raises, the former president famously values loyalty from those in his orbit and is unafraid to openly disparage perceived opponents. In fact, Trump even took to his Truth Social platform last year to publicly discourage Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan from testifying before a grand jury regarding Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
Is there a paper trail? Or an email trail? Did Trump email something saying about rewarding people?
Records show that between November 2022 and August 2023, Epshteyn was paid an average of $26,000 monthly by way of his New Jersey-based business, Georgetown Advisory. These payments increased in the wake of Trump’s federal indictments, ultimately reaching some $53,000 per month.

While Trump officials have attributed Epshteyn’s significant raise to simply taking on more work in the leadup to the former president’s legal appearances, white-collar defense lawyers like Kenneth Notter of MoloLamken are troubled by the timing of such notable payouts.

Yeah, life! You son-of-a-gun you
Come November, election time
You vote your way, I'll vote mine
'Cause there's a tie, and the money gets spent

Snowflakes

Is there two sets of laws, one for right-wing evangelical Christians, and one for the rest of us!

Okay talk about a snowflake, a snowflake that is trying to take away our First Amendment rights, this snowflake has filed a lawsuit because she was forced to work with a Pride flag. Yup, they flew Pride flags.
A Christian lifeguard is suing the city of Los Angeles for "severe emotional distress" after he was stationed near a Pride flag last year.

Jeffery Little, who has worked for the city for 22 years, filed a lawsuit on Friday claiming he is being discriminated against for his evangelical faith by being made to stand in the same vicinity as the Progress Pride flag. Little alleges he was suspended from his role with the department’s background investigation unit last year after he took down three LGBTQ+ flags during Pride month.

The Los Angeles county board of supervisors voted last year to require the rainbow banner be flown during the month of June at government buildings, which includes lifeguard stands. Little, who claimed the flags present a “direct conflict” with his religious beliefs, fought to be placed at stations that would not fly the flag, as they did not have the right flag poles to fly any banner.
So what is it this lawsuit wants to do?

This means that any flag or banner or paint crosswalk could be banned! Silencing a whole community because of your religion, what about our First Amendment rights? If the voice of a whole community silenced just because someone who feels uncomfortable, there is something definitely wrong.
The lifeguard seemed particularly triggered by the turquoise and pink stripes on the original Pride flag designed by Gilbert Baker, which represent magic and sex, respectively. Those two stripes are, notably, not on the Progress Pride flag, the subject of Little's suit. Still, Little claimed that queer identity goes against the "purpose of the human person."
Back in the 50s one of the reasons segregation was justified was because sitting next to a Black girl at a lunch counters made them feel uncomfortable.

Do we have 1st Amendment rights of free speech? Because this is what this lawsuit will do. Does one 1st Amendment right trump the other? Is “Religious Freedom” more important than freedom of speech?

This is the box that the Supreme Court is getting itself in. With the rulings in favor of "Religious Freedom" they are working themselves into a box where "Religious Freedom"  will trump :Free Speech".

Pet Peeve.

[Editorial]

Okay this has nothing to do with trans. Those who follow this blog knows that I think Speed Cameras and Red Light Cameras should be done away with.

Now those of you who have had kids, tell me would you do this? You tell your child not to ride his bike through the flower bed and two weeks after you told him not to do it you punish him for doing it two weeks ago and because he did it every day after you told him you add two weeks of “Time Outs”

You wanted to correct him of a bad habit (Riding his bike trough the flower garden.) did it work? No because for two weeks he did it. Now if the first time you saw him ride his bike through the flower bed after you told him, you gave him a time out and he never did it again. So which was more effective in curing bad behavior?

Speed Camera are the same way.

Problem: cars are driving too fast through school zones so you want to bring down the speed of drivers going through the school zone.

Solution: enforcement of the school zone.

Method 1: More officers handing out tickets.
Method 2: Speed Cameras

Using Method 1, the police department makes sure that there is at least one officers in the school zone enforcing the speed limit. The results are immediate… speed and you get a $100 ticket!

Using Method 2, the police department erects speed cameras. The results for two weeks you drove through the school zone thinking you were only keeping up with traffic and then after two weeks (I say two weeks because that is about the time it takes to get the bill for driving on a toll road.) you get 10 $100 speeding tickets.

Or you thought you made a complete stop at the red light before you made a right turn on red then two weeks latter you get a ticket in the mail. How can you contests the tickets you can’t even remember back what you did at the light two weeks ago. If there was an officers there you could have told him you thought you stopped completely. Punishment delayed does not correct bad habits.
Cameras were set up at a school zone

The chief of police in Eustis, the first-ever city in Florida to install speed cameras in a school zone and send out tickets, got a surprise after activating the cameras on April 3.

Eustis Police Chief Craig Capri first installed the cameras in front of Eustis Elementary School on Feb. 21 because speeding was so bad he worried for students’ safety.

Capri said some drivers were tearing through the school zone at 80 miles per hour.

At first, the cameras only issued warnings. After reviewing the cars caught on camera speeding, the police department mailed out 800 warnings in about five weeks.

Now the cameras have been active and issuing $100 tickets for almost two months.

Capri expected drivers would have gotten the message from the warnings or heard the news that the cameras would be activated resulting in tickets.

But drivers did not stop speeding.
Do you think that might be because the drivers are only just now getting the speeding tickets in the mail? That they never realized that they were speeding until the tickets stated arriving by mail?

And to prove my point…
Capri said in the five weeks after the cameras were activated for tickets, the police department mailed out 1,300 citations. And those include several hundred questionable tickets that were voided because the department “gives the driver the benefit of the doubt,” according to Capri.

Capri said he was blown away.

“I didn’t think it would be that high honestly,” Capri said. “I figured the warning would have sent the message. Hopefully, the warning would have curtailed that behavior. Evidently, the warning didn’t do the job. I think once we hit the wallet, the pocketbook, you’ll realize $100 is a lot of money.
And if they use the same road everyday? (BTW: 1,300 tickets time $100 = $130,000, now there is a big incentive for having speed cameras, especially for the company that runs the cameras, they get 20%.)
“And let me tell you some of my cops have had tickets, city crews have had tickets, elected officials have had tickets,” Capri said. “They all got to pay.”

One driver was cited five times in two days.

“Sounds like a guy that doesn’t know what’s going on and that’s a problem,” Capri said.
Yup, and I rest my case, right out of the mouth of the Police Chief. The driver didn’t even know that he was speeding until the tickets started arriving in the mail.

Do Red Light cameras and Speed Camera working? Or does everyone else walk away counting the money that they are racking in while we are wondering what happened?

For the towns and the companies they walk away counting their money versus costing more money to hire extra officers or paying them overtime.

And I am not even talking about how red light cameras increases rear-end accidents. Yes, they do cut down on "T-bone" accidents but the number of rear-end accidents skyrockets causing life long neck and back injuries.

Last word: How long is the data from the cameras kept, who owns the data and can they sell it, and who gets to see it?

And one court is going to be hearing a case about those license plate reader illegal invasion of privacy,
Illinois' use of cameras that read license plates amounts to 'dragnet surveillance,' lawsuit alleges
A lawsuit filed in federal court in Illinois seeks to end the state’s use of cameras that record license plates, geolocation and photos, saying they are a violation of the Fourth and Fourteenth amendments.

A lawsuit accuses Illinois State Police and state officials of operating an unconstitutional “system of dragnet surveillance” through license plate reading cameras which track motorist’s whereabouts.

The suit, filed last week by Cook County residents Stephanie Scholl and Frank Bednarz, names the state police, Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Atty. Gen. Kwame Raoul as defendants.

“Defendants are tracking anyone who drives to work in Cook County — or to school, or a grocery store, or a doctor’s office, or a pharmacy, or a political rally, or a romantic encounter, or family gathering — every day, without any reason to suspect anyone of anything, and are holding onto those whereabouts just in case they decide in the future that some citizen might be an appropriate target of law enforcement,” the suit states.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, “challenges the warrantless, suspicion less, and entirely unreasonable” tracking as a violation of the Fourth and Fourteenth amendments.
My guess is the courts will finally ruling that it does not. That it is just like an officer looking up a plate on a “Hot List.”

On This Sunday Morning.

It is fitting to write about the far-right evangelical have made a pack with the Republicans… you do away with abortions, and contraception and we will back you!

They already made abortions illegal in all the Republican states and now they are working to ban birth-control pills. You don’t believe me?

The Hill wrote,
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) vetoed a slew of bills Friday, including one focused on protecting access to contraceptives.

“While I look forward to working with the General Assembly to see if we can reach agreement on language in the future, today I must act on the language before me, and there are several bills which are not ready to become law,” Youngkin said in a release shared by his office.

“This includes legislation related to contraception. Let me be crystal clear: I support access to contraception. However, we cannot trample on the religious freedoms of Virginians,” he added.
So it is okay that they force their religious beliefs on the rest of us. Stateline reports…
Last year, conservative Republicans in the Missouri legislature took a run at blocking Medicaid funding from going to Planned Parenthood, a frequent and prominent target of anti-abortion activists and politicians.

But in the fine print of their measure, those Republicans revealed that their ambition wasn’t only to target a familiar abortion foe. They were going after specific forms of birth control as well, notably, emergency contraceptives, often sold under the brand name Plan B, and intrauterine devices, known as IUDs. GOP lawmakers tried to stop Missouri’s Medicaid agency from paying for those forms of contraception.

Missouri state Sen. Paul Wieland, one of the Republicans who led that effort, explained his position this way: “The bottom line is there is only one time something definitively happens and that’s the moment of conception. Once that happens, anything that happens should not be state funded.”
Ask yourself why are they doing this? What is their ultimate goal?
The right’s war on birth control is already starting
A new conservative incrementalism wants to erode access to birth control and lay the groundwork for a future ban.

A recent exposé by The New Yorker dropped a bombshell about the organization that may now be the most important in the antiabortion movement: the Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative Christian litigation group with a string of Supreme Court wins and a $104 million dollar budget in 2022. Alan Sears, a long-term leader of the group, told the New Yorker of his hopes that one day, Americans would “say the birth control pill is a mistake.”

Sears’ comment contrasts with ADF’s successful public relations strategy: claiming to defend merely the right to conscience of conservative Christians. The history of strategies like the ADF’s make clear that today’s conscience arguments can underwrite future bans, even on birth control itself.

[…]

ADF is different from the first generation of antiabortion groups: it is openly Christian, and focuses on issues beyond reproduction. It has also made conscience arguments even more central to its work. In Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, decided in 2018, ADF claimed to defend the religious liberty of a baker who did not wish to bake a cake for a same-sex marriage. In 303 Creative v. Elenis, decided earlier this year, ADF convinced the Supreme Court that the Constitution permitted a Christian website designer to refuse to serve same-sex couples.
How many of you have watched “Handmaid’s Tale”?

Our bodies, our choice.

P.S. If Trump is convicted he will not be able to vote in Florida in November. Poynter reports...
Trump is a registered voter in Palm Beach County. The Florida Department of State website states that “a felony conviction in another state makes a person ineligible to vote in Florida only if the conviction would make the person ineligible to vote in the state where the person was convicted.”

Something For Everyone!

That is the Republican platform in Texas, a little something for everyone! Here is a hint... it is all bad.
Texas Republicans call for ban on ‘abnormal’ gay marriage and parenting
The Republican Party of Texas wants to ban “abnormal” gay marriage, same-sex parenting and pretty much anything LGBTQ+.
Pink News

A list on the State Convention of the Republican Party of Texas platform is a cause for deep worry among the LGBTQ+ community who are already under attack in the Lone Star State.

“We believe in… the law of nature and nature’s God,” the principles start, with the party believing in “self-sufficient families, founded on traditional marriage of a natural man and a natural woman”.

The resolutions describe homosexuality as “an abnormal lifestyle choice,” adding that the party “opposes any criminal or civil penalties” against people who discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community for religious reasons.
I guess none of the Republicans grew up on a farm and seen two stallions humping one another. And they didn’t leave us out of their “hit” parade.
The platform goes on to call for anyone offering gender-affirming care to be “criminally prosecuted for child abuse”.

Under a section devotes to protecting minors, the platform describes Drag Queen Story Hours as a “predatory sexual behaviour” against which children should be protected.
The Constitution and federal laws… Texas is exempt from the Constitution and federal laws didn’t you know that.
“We are opposed to same-sex parenting, intentionally subjecting a child to the loss of their biological father or mother, and other non-traditional definitions of family,” the platform notes. This flies in the face of the Supreme Court ruling in 2015 that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples
The Supreme Court just make suggestion as far as Texas is concerned.
Proposed Texas GOP platform calls for the Bible in schools, electoral changes that would lock Democrats out of statewide office
The platform was voted on Saturday, with tallies expected next week. Other planks call abortion homicide and gender-transition care “child abuse.”
Texas Tribune
BY ROBERT DOWNEN AND RENZO DOWNEY
MAY 25, 2024

Republican Party of Texas delegates voted Saturday on a platform that called for new laws to require the Bible to be taught in public schools and a constitutional amendment that would require statewide elected leaders to win the popular vote in a majority of Texas counties.

Other proposed planks of the 50-page platform included proclamations that “abortion is not healthcare it is homicide”; that gender-transition treatment for children is “child abuse”; calls to reverse recent name changes to military bases and “publicly honor the southern heroes”; support for declaring gold and silver as legal tender; and demands that the U.S. government disclose “all pertinent information and knowledge” of UFOs.

The party hopes to finalize its platform on Wednesday, after Saturday’s votes on each proposal are tabulated.
U.S. government disclose “all pertinent information and knowledge” of UFOs… Hey that almost qualifies it for the Cuckoo Award.

The rest of the country is trying to do away with the Electoral College but Texas want to create one…
Perhaps the most consequential plank calls for a constitutional amendment to require that candidates for statewide office carry a majority of Texas’ 254 counties to win an election, a model similar to the U.S. electoral college.

Under current voting patterns, in which Republicans routinely win in the state’s rural counties, such a requirement would effectively end Democrats’ chances of winning statewide office. In 2022, Gov. Greg Abbott carried 235 counties, while Democrat Beto O’Rourke carried most of the urban, more populous counties and South Texas counties. Statewide, Abbott won 55% of the popular vote while O’Rourke carried 44%.

However, some attorneys question whether such a proposal would be constitutional and conform with the Voting Rights Act because it would most likely limit the voting power of racial minorities, who are concentrated in a relatively small number of counties. (The party’s platform also reiterates its previous calls for the repeal of the Voting Rights Act).
And then, and then we have the Christian Nationalists got a bone thrown to them.
The platform also takes a step further some of the party’s previous calls for more Christianity in public life. The 2022 platform proclaimed that the United States was “founded on Judeo-Christian principles,” for instance, and demanded the repeal of federal prohibitions on political activity by churches.

The 2024 platform goes significantly further: It urges lawmakers and the State Board of Education to “require instruction on the Bible, servant leadership and Christian self-governance,” and supports the use of religious chaplains in schools — which was made legal under a law passed by the state Legislature last year.
Hey, the Constitution? Doesn’t it say something about no state religions? Or maybe Texas thinks it only applies to the Federal government and not to the states.
In another Texas Tribune article,
At Texas GOP convention, Republicans call for spiritual warfare
At the three-day convention, delegates moved the needle further to the right, preaching Christian nationalism and approving rules that would give them unprecedented control of elections.
BY ROBERT DOWNEN
MAY 28, 2024

From his booth in the exhibit hall of the Texas GOP’s 2024 convention, Steve Hotze saw an army of God assembled before him.

For four decades, Hotze, an indicted election fraud conspiracy theorist, has helmed hardline anti-abortion movements and virulently homophobic campaigns against LGBTQ+ rights, comparing gay people to Nazis and helping popularize the “groomer” slur that paints them as pedophiles. Once on the fringes, Hotze said Saturday that he was pleased by the party's growing embrace of his calls for spiritual warfare with “demonic, Satanic forces” on the left.

“People that aren’t in Christ have wicked, evil hearts,” he said. “We are in a battle, and you have to take a side.”

Those beliefs were common at the party’s three-day biennial convention last week, at which delegates adopted a series of new policies that would give the party unprecedented control over the electoral process and further infuse Christianity into public life.

Delegates approved rules that ban Republican candidates — as well as judges — who are censured by the party from appearing on primary ballots for two years, a move that would give a small group of Republicans the ability to block people from running for office, should it survive expected legal challenges. The party’s proposed platform also included planks that would effectively lock Democrats out of statewide office by requiring candidates to win a majority of Texas’ 254 counties, many of which are dark-red but sparsely populated, and called for laws requiring the Bible to be taught in public schools.
Hm… I remember reading something about “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely."
Those fears were stoked by elected officials in almost every speech given over the week. “They want to take God out of the country, and they want the government to be God,” Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said Thursday morning.

“Our battle is not against flesh and blood,” Sen. Angela Paxton, R-McKinney, said Friday. “It is against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

”Look at what the Democrats have done,” U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said Saturday. “If you were actively trying to destroy America, what would you do differently?”
Look at what Republican have done! Totally ignored federal laws because they don’t like it!

Of course this is only the party platform and it hasn’t been approved but it shows where their head is screwed on.

Who's Missing?

[Editorial]

In 2021 the state of Connecticut commissioned a study of the LGBTQ+ community and one of the findings was:
Older Adults. There were specific housing comments related to the older adult LGBTQ+ population. These comments included concerns related to the inclusivity and safety of senior housing or assisted living facilities and affordability/financial assistance for those looking to live in their own home.
Okay, New Have Pride Center has a senior group, Triangle Community Center doesn’t, Hartford Health Collective doesn’t.

Why? Why don’t they have a senior group?

There was an LGBTQ+ event at the Capitol a couple of months ago… they had youth speak at the event, they had minorities speak at the event, and they had state officials speak at the event. Guess who they didn’t have speak at the event? Seniors.

The Stonewall generation is the forgotten generation, we are being put out to pasture.

Did the Middletown Pride Parade have a bus for the disabled and senior communities. As far as I can tell nope! Why not? Do you think we don’t want to be in the parade? You would think that they could talk a bus company to provide a bus or a trailer something so we could be in the parade… but I guess the parade rains on the disabled and senior communities.

One time I was at a “Town Hall Meeting” to discuss future legislation and needs of the community. We went around the room talking about where we needed more work… there were talk about more legislation for students, for employment, and then it got to me. I said we need more work with senior centers and long term care facilities. You know what I got in reply? A chant of “Boomer. Boomer”

Not one person there spoke up! Not a single activist in a room filled with activists. Not the person from a national organization, not the person running the meeting… no one.

The New Haven Pride Center is as far as I know the only LGBTQ+ organization that has a senior group no other LGBTQ+ organization cares enough about us seniors. I would attend their meetings except for two reasons: #1 It is at night. #2 It is in New Haven. New Haven is notorious for one way streets, which for a person who is not familiar with New Haven it is a nightmare.

Pride Month!

Have you gone to a Pride? Or a Pride Parade?

The reason for Pride is not to party but rather to remember what we had to go through to get here. The bashed heads, the shooting, the police harassment, and the killing… Pride is because we survived. We are here, we are queer, and we are in your face!

That is what Pride is about, that we survived another year! Many of us didn’t. I bet that most of us know at least one victim of violence, one person who was harassed by police, one person who was denied service.

The Advocate has an article on Pride month that was picked up by Yahoo News and they allow comments.
In a related story, "Certain Mental Disorders Can Be Treated With Placebos."  For example, Pride Month.

While they are not useful to society, their flag is. Cut in small strips and pick up dog ex cre ment.

Do we really have to have a Freak Show month every year?  When is Family Month, or Dog Month, or Farmer Month?
Or this comment on Facebook,

Pandering to the rainbow mafia
What an abomination
They’re after your kids.
And that folks is why we have Pride. Because of people like these and that we survived another year.

Saturday 9: 5-10-15-20

On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9  questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this week's song, The Presidents sing about a long married, very happy couple. Who is the longest married couple you know? Who is the happiest? Are they the same couple?
My parents were 66 years together. My brother and sister-in-law are getting up, they are at 57 years and counting.

2) The lyrics ask repeatedly: "Aren't we happy?" Are you feeling happy today? Why or why not?
I’m a grumpy ol’ Grinch. I have been having back pain for over a month.

3) This happy couple enjoys watching children at play. Is there a park, playground or schoolyard near you?
Nope, the school was turned in a senior center.

4) This song reminds Crazy Sam of when she used to recite the multiplication tables. Think back to your school days. Was math one of your favorite subjects?
It was but when I started to get into high math like vector calculus (Especially using a slide rule), well…

5) The Presidents seems like a good name for a band formed in Washington DC. What would be an appropriate name for a band from your hometown?
The Peddlers.
We are the home of the Yankee Peddlers, tin smiths used to make there tinware here in the winter and in the summer they went around New England selling their tinware.

6) DC trivia: The street names are letters, but J was skipped. That's because in the 1700s, the way many wrote their alphabet, "J" looked like "I" and so "J" was passed over to avoid confusion. Tell us something we may not know about your hometown (or state).
We have what some say is the first Union Civil War monument.

7) In 1970, when this song was on the Billboard chart, The Mary Tyler Moore Show premiered on CBS. The theme song said Mary could "turn the world on with her smile," yet in real life, MTM was self-conscious about her "wide mouth." Are you comfortable looking at photos of yourself?
Yes.
The shows are way past my bedtime, but I pick Johnny Carson… no one even comes close to him.

8) Also in 1970, Dinah Shore became one of the first women to host her own national daytime talk show. Today, Kelly Clarkson, Drew Barrymore, Tamron Hall, Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Ripa all have their own shows, and The Talk and The View are both hosted by women. Who is your favorite talk show host?
Um… I haven’t watch a talk show.

9) Random question -- Would you rather have a job that has you on your feet all day, or one that has you parked in a chair?
Well…
For over 40 years I sat in a chair to work and it is taking its toll now in my 70s with back pain.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!
