This Is Totally Off The Wall.

The Republicans hate us.

Their hate causes them to do stupid thing — like sue the AMA, APA, WPATH... for RICO Act!

Hun? What? What are they talking about? What is RICO Act? You know when they go after the mob money — that's the RICO Act (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act).

Now I more confused than ever!
Florida has accused WPATH, the Endocrine Society, and the American Academy of Pediatrics of somehow violating the RICO Act.

The state of Florida is suing several leading medical groups for following the scientific consensus that gender-affirming care is safe and life-saving for transgender youth.

Republican attorney general James Uthmeier filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), the Endocrine Society, and the American Academy of Pediatrics, accusing the groups of supposedly violating the RICO Act by pushing "discredited clinical guidelines as 'evidence-based standards of care' to sell memberships."

The lawsuit bases the majority of its claims on the 2024 National Health Service report by Hilary Cass, which incorrectly stated there is “no good evidence” for gender-affirming care. The report was immediately debunked for dismissing evidence from over 100 studies that found the care is beneficial by using discredited metrics and theories, while also ignoring the countless other high-quality studies that have findings in support of the care.
That's CRAZY! It is based on a discredited report!

They are totally bonkers, get a load of the bull;
Florida's lawsuit also claims that youth identifying as trans was a "rarity a decade ago" and that gender dysphoria diagnoses have "skyrocketed in recent years." It blames this "social contagion" on "social media, smartphones, a lack of in-person interaction, and other societal ills."
This is from right-wing social media with no facts to base the accusations upon.
— Three major medical organizations are named in the complaint

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier targeted three major medical organizations in a lawsuit over gender-affirming care for youth.

The lawsuit alleges that the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the Endocrine Society misled "public opinion on the safety" of gender-affirming care for minors, according to an announcement from the Attorney General's office.

The complaint stated that "defendants' campaign to mislead patients, parents, insurers, regulators, and courts about the reversibility and efficacy of pediatric sex interventions violates the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and constitutes a pattern of racketeering activity under the Florida Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act."
This is purely politics! The feds are also involved;
In May, HHS released a report urging greater reliance on behavioral therapy rather than broad gender-affirming medical care for minors with gender dysphoria; the report did not include input from WPATH, AAP, or the Endocrine Society. In response, a number of major medical organizations pushed back.
Of course, there is plenty of evidence in favor of the efficacy and safety of gender-affirming care for minors, which is why organizations like WPATH, the Endocrine Society, and the American Academy of Pediatrics have endorsed the availability of said care. But that hasn’t stopped the right wing. In July, the Department of Justice announced that it had issued “nearly 20” subpoenas to clinics providing gender-affirming care to youth, alleging that “healthcare fraud, false statements, and more” are occurring at the clinics. In August, a group of state attorneys general filed a lawsuit accusing the Trump administration of using backdoor methods to create a de facto ban on gender-affirming care while skirting state laws that protect the civil rights of trans people.
The Yale School of Medicine / Law "Integrity Project" said that the Cass Report "repeatedly misuses data" and "violates its own evidentiary standards."
Amongst our author group, we have 86 years of experience in caring for more than 4800 transgender youth and have published 278 peer-reviewed studies, 168 of which are in the field of gender-affirming care. The holistic care that the clinicians among us provide is rooted in decades of research; it is not controversial in the world-class pediatric health centers where we practice. The research we conduct is ethical and valued by our peers in medicine and epidemiology. We can also speak to how the evidence informs the positive clinical outcomes that our patients experience.
Even in the UK, where the report originated, the British Medical Association (BMA) in a historic move, the BMA (the professional body for doctors in the UK) voted to publicly critique the Review and called for a pause on the implementation of its recommendations. They expressed "deep concern" over the methodology and the potential harm to vulnerable youth.

This is from another case that Florida went after and according to the Guardian it cost the taxpayers,
Since Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis, took office in 2019 and embarked on his culture wars, lawsuits from various communities whose rights have been violated have been stacking up against the far-right Republican.

As DeSantis fights the lawsuits with what critics have described as a blank check from the state’s supermajority Republican legislature, the mounting legal costs have come heavily at the expense of Florida’s taxpayers.

[...]

With Republicans rushing to DeSantis’s defense, perhaps the most glaring example of the legislature’s endorsement of his legal wars is the $16m incorporated into the state’s $117bn budget to be used exclusively for his litigation expenses.

Speaking to the Guardian, the state’s Democratic house leader, Fentrice Driskell, called the budget a “carte blanche” from Republicans and the result of zero accountability.
Then we have the right-winger media giving "hi-fives" Focus on The Family headline says it all...
