January 16th 2024The Biden administration’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will appropriate nearly $700,000 in funds for a pregnancy prevention program directed at transgender males, according to disclosure documents.
A project grant from HHS to the Center for Innovative Public Health Research in California, the funds will work to encourage trans boys to use condoms during sex. This messaging, while included in most teenage sexual education programs, is not always aimed at transgender boys, researchers wrote.Data suggest that afab trans-identified youth may be less likely to use condoms when having sex with people who have penises and are at least as likely as cisgender girls to be pregnant,” they wrote. “This health inequity must be addressed.”Researchers continued, explaining they intend to use the funds to conduct focus groups to determine the way transgender minors make decision regarding sex. With this data, the group will then conduct “content advisory teams” before issuing the messaging with the intent of monitoring its impact on contraceptive use.

January 17th 2024Transgender children who need an adoptive or foster parent could be placed in homes that don't support their gender identity if a new bill gets signed into law.
Senate Bill 1677, authored by Sen. Julie Daniels, would prohibit the Oklahoma Department of Human Services from requiring a condition for potential foster and adoptive parents that they support a child's sexual orientation or gender identity if it conflicts with the prospective parents "sincerely held religious or moral beliefs".
