...And they're always glad you cameHow many of you hang out with trans people?
You want to be where you can see
The troubles are all the same
You want to be where everybody knows your name
I think for a lot of us when we want to kick up our feet and relax that many of us seek other trans people to “chill out” with, and I think this is especially true if you cannot integrate fully into society.
That many of us want to go to a place where everybody knows your name to relax, where you can just be you. I have many non-trans friends that I hangout with and where I can be myself but when I am out in public it is harder to relax.
I do a lot of training and go to a lot of business meetings where I am probably the first trans person that they met or seen. When I go grocery shopping or to a department store I get looks. One time a guy stared so hard that he walked into a door.
And sometimes it wears on you and you just want to go where everybody knows your name.
What about you?

I don't have IRL trans friends. I'd like to have a place to go to be among "friends" but my hyper-conservative town doesn't have much in terms of an open mind.
ReplyDeleteThe people with whom I spend time have seen me in Heather mode but I don't know if they realize the extent of Heather's existence.
