If You Are Not Counted You Don’t Exist

When we were trying to pass the gender inclusive non-discrimination bill the top question was “How many trans people are there in Connecticut?”

Everything needs to be quantified; no matter if it is healthcare, the number of people with same-sex spouses, the number of homeless, everything needs to be counted so when we are not counted we do not exist.

The Department of Justice has signaled it wants to stop asking 16- and 17-year-olds about their sexual orientation and gender identity.

Conducted twice a year, the National Crime Victimization Survey tracks crimes from theft and burglary to sexual assault, to measure trends, including the vulnerability of minority communities.

Since July 2016, all respondents 16 and older have been asked to identify if they are LGBT, but the DOJ announced this week that it was requesting the age be raised to 18, “due to concerns about the potential sensitivity of these questions for adolescents.”
So what does this mean?

Well if the data on LGBT victims are not collected then there can be no hate crimes, if there is no data there can be no increase in crimes against us, if there is no data on crimes against us there can be no disparaging data against the administration.

This is nothing more than a way for the current to hide their bigotry and rise of hate crimes against the LGBT community.
