Why Trans-People Don’t Like The Police

If you look at the survey “Injustice at Every Turn” one of the statistic jumps out at you… “29% reported police harassment or disrespect” and what happened to a trans-woman in Scotland highlights that, when she received her divorce papers there was a post-it note attached to her paperwork,

Becky Kent was stunned when she read a handwritten memo which officials had forgotten to remove from her paperwork. It was stuck on top of her divorce decree and sent to her.

The scribbled Post-it note read: “Colin it’s right!!! Man – changed his name to woman’s name – statutory declaration attached!!! Takes all sorts!!”

The letter had also been addressed “Dear Sir”.
It is that kind of disrespect that we fear; when you call 911 you never know the outcome. It could be a friendly officer like the ones that helped me when I called 911 because of accidents or it could be like what happened to someone that I know. She was waiting for her son late one night at a park & ride who was coming back from college when the state police were checking out the lot and he stopped to find out what she was doing there late at night. He saw that she was transgender and then all of a sudden there were a number of other police cars both state and local that arrived. One of the officers took a picture of her saying they need it for their record.

Do you think they needed all those police officers? Or they needed to take her picture for just waiting for her son in a park & ride.
