I just took one of those online quizzes about U.S. history. The quiz was created by the same people who put together “Freedom 250.”
Conservatives don't believe that the Civil War was about slavery...
Question: Why was the Civil War fought?
Their answer: States' rights. Not slavery.
Why do they claim it was about "states' rights"? It actually traces back to the Fugitive Slave Acts. To provide a little historical context: the Fugitive Slave Acts required that runaway slaves who escaped to free states be captured and returned to their owners.
The logic of the Southern states was that escaped slaves were stolen property and had to be returned. Northern states said no, they are human beings and refused to return them.
The Southern states refused to recognize that the underlying issue was, in fact, slavery.
“Freedom 250” claims we are a “Christian nation” and completely whitewashes history. That is where the controversy lies. Through this lens, the accomplishments and struggles of minorities are minimized.

Now, think about this…
Texas currently wants data on Texans who have traveled to states where abortion is legal. Texas also wants the healthcare records of transgender children who received treatment in states where that care is legal.
