Smith College Faces Federal Investigation for Admitting Trans Women

The Trump administration argues that allowing “biological males” into “women’s intimate spaces” violates Title IX, a federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination.

For more than a decade, Smith College has admitted trans women to its all-women’s campus. But a new federal investigation could threaten the policy as well as similar ones at other women’s colleges across the country.

The Education Department said Monday that it is investigating whether the Massachusetts college is violating federal antidiscrimination law.

“Title IX contains a single-sex exception that allows colleges to enroll all-male or all-female student bodies—but the exception applies on the basis of biological sex difference, not subjective gender identity,” the department said in a news release. “An all-girls college that enrolls male students professing a female identity would cease to qualify as single sex under Title IX.”

This case isn't the result of anyone saying the college discriminated against them but rather legal group on the Trump adminstration standing laws on their heads!

In the complaint, Defending Education alleged the liberal arts college was violating Title IX because the “accommodations for so-called gender identity encroach upon sex-specific programs and spaces.” By “admitting men who feel like women,” the institution is “falling victim to the fiction of ‘transgender’ womanhood,” the group added in a statement Monday shortly after the investigation was announced.

The number of Trump's anti-trans discrimination cases are mounting, this isn't the first case like this, some other Title VII case were Brown University and Columbia University.

The Trump adminstration is also going after settled cases and voiding their settlements!

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration said on Monday it was terminating resolution agreements ‌backing transgender students that prior administrations had reached with some school districts.

The U.S. Education Department said it was terminating six resolution agreements reached through what it called the manipulation of Title IX. The Title IX civil-rights statute bars ​the denial of benefits or discrimination in education "on the basis of sex."

The Education Department said its Office for Civil Rights will no longer monitor or enforce deals reached with the Sacramento City ​Unified School District in California, the Cape Henlopen School District in Delaware, the Fife School District ​in Washington state, the Delaware Valley School District in Pennsylvania, the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District in California and ‌Taft ⁠College in California.

The Sacramento City Unified School District said it remained "committed to the support of our LGBTQ+ students and staff."

School districts look at the cost of years of litigation and cave-in to Trump's demands! Now Trump is trying to extort more out of the school districts!

The head of the NCAA testified before Congress a couple of years ago that out of over a half a million student athletes there were only ten trans athletes. That number has been highly criticized but even if it was off by a 1000% it still would be only be around a 100 trans athletes!
