Speaking with GLAAD’s Anthony Allen Ramos, Carter opened up about her long-time connection to the queer community, drag queens, and her first time ever in a gay bar. While Carter was filming the Wonder Woman TV series in the ‘70s, she said her friend and make-up artist Way Bandy took her to go to a gay bar. “We pranced in and all the men were dancing together. It was [a] very audacious New York gay bar. It was hysterically funny. I just enjoyed being around my gay and lesbian friends so so much,” she recalled.

Her response is in keeping with her decades of vocal allyship with the LGBTQ+ community. In June, she wrote a tweet making her feelings very clear on the subject.
And it is not just lesbians and gays,
She also spoke out in defense of trans people in July. “I cannot think of anything that helps women’s rights less than pinning the blame on trans women. They face so much violence and scrutiny as is. Leave them alone and focus on the real war on women. It’s happening in the courts and legislatures around this country,” she wrote on Twitter.

And she is not the only one speaking out.

Harris – a celebrated writer, chairperson of the trade union Society of Authors and parent of a trans child – received backlash from gender-critical feminists this week after posting a poll to find out how many authors had received death threats via social media.Harris was subsequently accused of “mocking” JK Rowling, as the author had recently reported receiving a death threat after condemning the attack on author Salman Rushdie.
An onslaught from Rowling’s supporters ensued, and The Daily Mail ran an article claiming she was “facing calls to quit” her position as the Society of Authors chairperson.
In a Twitter thread, Harris clarified her “poll on death threats to authors had nothing to do with JK Rowling”, and that she is “wholly against threats of any kind, to anyone, regardless of their politics, opinions or views”.
Is it me or does it seem like the conservatives (Whether political or religious) make a lot more death threats than the liberals? And it seems also to me that the press likes to stir up trouble…
On Twitter, Harris expressed her confusion over how the discussion had turned to trans rights: “Given that the latest death threat to JK Rowling was directly in response to her support of Salman Rushdie, then why have the press made this about trans people (again)?”
Nevertheless, she posted a response to Twitter, carefully explaining how her role as a trade union chairperson did not make her responsible for policing Twitter, and how her support of trans people did not decrease her support of women and free speech.

“Yes, I support trans rights. I also have a son who came out as trans a few months ago. But my personal feelings about the gender-critical movement don’t affect my belief in free speech, or what I do for the Society of Authors.”
It seems to that if you support trans and LGBTQ+ rights that according to the conservatives nothing else that you do matters. That you are tainted with a mortal sin and nothing else you do matters.

In a time when social media (i.e.: Facebook, Twitter and YouTube) have been the enabling and publishing / broadcasting the lies and hatred spewed by people like Trump, Tucker Carlson and a seemingly endless list of media hate-mongers, it is encouraging that there are people like Lynda Carter and P!nk speaking out and being heard. Kudos to Lynda. Every ray of sunshine helps.
