Saturday 9

Saturday 9: I Wouldn't Trade Christmas (1968)
On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In addition to Christmas, this song name-checks many major holidays, including Mother's and Father's Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween and Valentine's Day. Which holiday is your favorite?
I have found that the old you get that it is not so much the holidays but rather the company that matters.

2) The Sinatra family posed in all-white for this album cover in August 1968. Are there any pictures of you and your siblings in matching outfits?
Nope.

3) Nancy is the oldest of the Sinatra children. She's also the one who performed most often on TV and film with her famous father. She played his daughter (of course!) in a movie and appeared in two of his TV specials while he appeared in one of hers. In 1967, she and Frank scored a #1 single with a duet of "Somethin' Stupid." Have you ever worked with a family member or spouse?
I hired my cousin to build my house. (Hint: Don’t do it.)

4) Frank, Jr., was the middle child and only son. A dedicated musician, he labored in his father's long shadow and joked that he would have had an easier time if he'd chosen real estate instead of music. Tell us about your path not taken. (Examples: A career you wish you'd pursued but didn't; a person you could have married but didn't; a city you almost moved to, but changed your mind.)
Well we were an engineering family. Father: Civil engineer, Brother: Industrial Engineer, Me: Electrical Engineer. But my brother’s family didn’t follow in the tradition, they went into business.

5) Unlike her father and siblings, Tina Sinatra never wanted to be a singer. She found success as a theatrical agent and, at her father's request, became involved with his business affairs. Today she helps manage the rights to Frank Sinatra's movies and music. Do you have a good head for business?
Not really.

6) Nancy and Frank, Jr., were born in Jersey City. By the time Tina was born, the family had relocated to Los Angeles. Did your family move around a lot when you were young?
Nope. I lived in the same town for over 70 years.

Now my brother’s family lived in a different town when each of his children were born. They were always moving and having to make new friends in each school.

And now, in the spirit of the season ...

7) Do you consider snow globes a holiday decoration, or do think they should be displayed all year around?
To tell you the truth I never owned one so I can’t really say.. I would say a more of a winter decoration than a holidays decoration.

8) Which of Dickens' Christmas ghosts would you most enjoy spending time with: past, present or future?
Hmm… Future because at my age future Christmases are always doubtful so if I saw a future Christmas I would know at least I made it that far.

9) Have you crafted, cooked, or baked any gifts this holiday season?
Does throwing a tube of Pillsbury cookies in the oven count?

I apologize for missing last weeks answer but last week and this week is going to be crazy, I have been trying to get trades people up at the cottage. I had a doctor’s appointment that I couldn’t change and I drove home for that and back again. I thought I had a electrician but he ghosted me and never showed up meaning I didn’t have to rush back up to the Cape to talk to him. This week another said he will stop by on Tuesday to look the job over. I also looked for a new plumber to close up the cottage, the old one didn’t coming out right away when his new work started to leak causing several thousand dollars, I didn’t want to sue him until I had someone to replace him.

I’m up at the cottage cleaning up to close the cottage right after I find an electrician… hopefully on Wednesday I can head back home. If not I stay up here until Christmas and close it up then and start the search for an electrician in the spring, but I rather find one now. For the doctor's appointment I mentioned to him that I drove down and back up to the Cape because I'm looking for an electrician he laughed and said he has had no luck in also finding one.

And this whole business of finding a plumber and electrician has been depressing.

  1. Love your answers. No need to apologize, you needed to take care of business.

  2. I seen Jr. at a shopping mall promo. Couldn’t carry a tune in a bushel basket. Nancy was pretty good in “Wild Angels”

  4. Pillsbury counts! I hope you get what you need done. brother and his son are electricians. Brother's daughter is an EE. Maybe one day you can explain your two homes. Cottage sounds so cute, but maybe because it is smaller and one is near the water?

  5. I think Pillsbury counts, that is how I do some of mine. Good luck getting things closed up for the winter.

  6. #4: So you're a family of engineers! But the questions asked about a path *not* taken so I'm curious: is there a profession you entertained entering but didn't?

    1. I always like electronics... I think that it was ordered, logical, followed set rules that I liked about.
