Cuckoo Award.

We have a three time winner! And I have a feeling that the awards will keep on coming!

Today Cuckoo Award goes once again to no other than a relative of John F. Kennedy, this time for his appointment of the Raw Milk Czar!

Robert F Kennedy Jr has asked a raw milk farmer whose products have been recalled for containing the bird flu virus to become a health adviser to the US government.

Mark McAfee, a raw milk producer from California, confirmed on Thursday that he had applied to advise the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on his product, after a request from Donald Trump’s Health Secretary nominee.

Mr Kennedy is understood to have asked Mr McAfee to apply for the role, despite his products being recalled 13 times since 2006 for containing bird flu and other pathogens.

The Fresno-based entrepreneur runs Raw Farm, a dairy producer that specialises in milk that has not been pasteurised.

Raw milk has become a cause celebre of the libertarian Right in recent years, and several states have overturned bans on its sale for human consumption.
It is the their list of their wackiness.

So the third Cuckoo Award is given to Robert F Kennedy!

Raw milk has been having a moment, with sales rising as much as 65% higher in 2024 compared to 2023. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., President-elect Donald Trump Jr.'s pick to lead the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), has promoted raw milk, too, calling for the end of its "aggressive suppression."

But, experts tell Yahoo Life, raw milk is never safe, and least of all now: Bird flu virus was detected in a batch of raw milk from Raw Farm in Fresno, Calif., and recalled, state health department officials announced on Nov. 24. On Dec. 6, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued an order for all milk, including raw milk, to be tested for bird flu, according to an agency press release. And the emerging virus isn't the only health concern linked to raw milk. Earlier in 2024, at least 165 people contracted salmonella after drinking unpasteurized milk from the same farm, Associated Press reported. It was the largest outbreak linked to raw milk in a decade, according to health officials, and nearly 40% of cases involve children under age 5.

The risk of bird flu to humans remains low, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, thanks in part to pasteurization, which inactivates the virus in the commercial milk supply. But noninfectious fragments of the virus have been detected even in pasteurized milk, raising concerns that untreated milk could pose a greater potential risk to those drinking it.
Connecticut allows sales of raw milk, the Federal law prohibits the sale of unpasteurized milk across state lines, but individual state laws govern the sale of unpasteurized milk within the state. So where's the beef?

  1. When bird flu is detected in fowl the flock is eradicated. When bird flu is detected in a human, do we kill the person? No, we treat the person. I believe with Covid-19 when a person was sick but undetected the virus had the opportunity to alter and become a new strain. Does society really want to become a testing ground for bird flu to change into something more deadly because the host wanted to drink raw milk? That particular farmer seems to have a poor track record of keeping his product safe. Maybe, that farmer can advise others, what not to do!
