A Day In Trans History

On this day one of really great trans pioneer wrote on her blog today in 2011…

One of the reasons that I stepped down from the Executive Director was over definitions, I was getting push back because I believed that “trans” was an umbrella for anyone who crossed the gender norm. other trans people were that it meant only those who transitioned were trans! Then others said only those who had surgery were “trans.”

They want a pecking order with post-op on top.

If you look at the Connecticut law you will see nothing about requiring medical intervention…
(21) "Gender identity or expression" means a person's gender-related identity, appearance or behavior, whether or not that gender-related identity, appearance or behavior is different from that traditionally associated with the person's physiology or assigned sex at birth, which gender-related identity can be shown by providing evidence including, but not limited to, medical history, care or treatment of the gender-related identity, consistent and uniform assertion of the gender-related identity or any other evidence that the gender-related identity is sincerely held, part of a person's core identity or not being asserted for an improper purpose.
You are trans if you say so! That was because of Jerimarie and others like her that wanted to cover anyone who crosses the gender norms.
