A House Divided

The sad news is that half of the citizens of our country is fine with racism, xenophobia, misogyny, homophobia, and transphobia.

But first the good news… Sarah McBride, Stephanie Byers, and Taylor Small all were elected and join Danica Roem and others trans persons elected to office. Congratulation!

The nation had a record turn out, the percentage of voters who voted set a record. The largest turn-out in a century.

I think that this election boiled down to “I’m against them.”

Those who voted for Trump put aside the racism, put aside the xenophobia, put aside misogyny, and put aside the anti-LGBTQ+ hatred and voted for Trump because he is not a Democrat.

Why did Sen. Mitch McConnell win? I think it was because the voters cared about what he brought to the state… “what’s in it for me” and he is not a Democrat.

I think that Trump campaign strategy of division worked, fear of the other worked. Whether he wins or not is still being decided but his strategy divided the country.

  1. Claire Hall, a County Commissioner in Oregon's coastal Lincoln County, won re-election. Claire is a transwoman who made a very public transition two years ago. She ran for re-election to a new 4 year term and won with 55% of the vote.
