There is a big debate on whether or not to allow LGBTQ+ police officers to march in uniform. Where do I stand on it?

At the Middletown Pride last weekend had heavy police coverage including a MRAP, some said that they didn’t like all the police presence.

I see headlines lie these and like the police presence at Pride.
White Nationalist Threats Against Transgender People Are Escalating

Transphobic rhetoric, some of it violent, appears to be increasing among white nationalists and neo-Nazis as the fight for transgender rights gains visibility and public support.
A Hatewatch review of internet chatter, social media posts and recent news events shows hate groups ramping up their efforts to demonize the transgender community, going as far as calling for the deaths of trans people.
The harassment of transgender people and their allies has been especially pronounced during Pride month, celebrated in June. For example, at Detroit’s Motor City Pride event June 8, about a dozen members of the National Socialist Movement raised a swastika flag, tore apart a rainbow flag and yelled, “fuck you faggots” and “Jews will not replace us.” And in Orlando, the New Independent Fundamental Baptist Movement held a “Make America Straight Again” conference with some speakers calling for the government to kill members of the LGBTQ community, which includes transgender people.

A group of white nationalists marched on an LGBTQ event in Detroit on Saturday, demonstrating Nazi salutes and carrying weapons.

Members of the National Socialist Movement (NSM) caused outrage at the event meant to celebrate gay pride, and one member was photographed appearing to urinate on an Israeli flag.

The Motor City Pride is described on its Facebook event page as the largest pride month event in Michigan, with 40,000 people marked as attending. On Saturday, some individuals tried unsuccessfully to stop the NSM group from entering the streets, which were blocked off by police and lined with rainbow flags.

DC Pride parade ends in chaos after false report of gunshots, causes 'widespread fear'

A brief commotion broke out during Washington, D.C.'s "Capital Pride" parade after revelers heard what they took to be gunshots, but city officials said it was a false alarm.

There were minor injuries "due to reports of a shooting," Mayor Muriel Bowser said in a post on Twitter. "There were no shots fired, and there is no active threat."

Kevin Donahue, the deputy mayor for public safety, tweeted: "There are injuries from people running from what they thought were gunshots. But there is NO ACTIVE SHOOTER at Dupont Circle."

Seven people were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries sustained while running from the scene, authorities said. Others were treated on scene for minor injuries.
There is evil out there.

And that evil has us in their sights and I for one liked the police presence at the Middletown Pride, I think the MRAP was overboard, but looking at one of the moderate “right” emails about the Pride said “Main Street in Middletown earlier this month looked like an occupied country, all those giant rainbow flags on the buildings, like a message from a conquering army.” Even though they didn’t say violent nor do I think that organization would condone any violence it shows that not everyone is a fan of Pride.

As for police marching in Pride, they are LGBTQ+ and I am not in favor of censorship. Those opposed to their march can protest and let their feelings known. I feel if we want their protection we need to let them march.

  1. And you really think that the police will protect you when push comes to shove? Think again. They are agents of the state and if the state is a dictatorship or a police or military state I would gather that they will FOLLOW ORDERS and do what the ones who are paying them ask them to do. At a recent pride cops with rainbow pins on helped to protect the Neo Nazis. I am surprise that you knowing full well how our Black and Brown Trans sisters feel about cops at pride would support it. Yeah their job is to protect right now but do we want them marching with us? Do we support the killing of black men and women by them? Do we support them as judge jury and executioner? Do we know our history with cops? Are they a continuing problem in our community? Cops are the first line of defense supporting the ruling class not us. Sure if they want to march, march out of uniform. Many Stonewall Vets are calling for cops out of pride and will march today with the Reclaim Pride Coalition under the banners, NO COPS, NO CORPORATIONS! I hope everyone who supports cops at pride will continue to raise their voices against the harassment of sex workers, Trans women, Black women and men and anyone else who gets who the cops think are in their way. Remember also many of them are on the right with ties to the Neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups. They are posing right now, they are a façade and as I said when the shit hits the fan beware of them or Beware of them now is a better slogan.

  2. I agree with everything you said except for not allowing them to march. Protest them, march in front of them and in back of them calling out their racism violence against Black and Brown. I have met a number of trans officers and also met the lesbian officers who have been discriminated against by the other officers and the administration.

I have been told that I'm not trans enough from other trans people. In the sixties and seventies trans people were excluded from marching in Pride along with butch lesbians and feminine gays. Look at the early Pride marches they look like ads for yuppies fraternities and sororities. The were parades of exclusion. Who gets to decide who can march and who cannot march?

I think corporate sponsorships have gotten out of hand especially with corporate floats and I also think Pride has for many turned into one big week long beer bash. Did you go to Middletown Pride? I saw a difference between Middletown and Hartford Pride, Hartford looked like corporate row... how many banks, and company tents were there in Hartford's Pride.

  3. Speaking of corporate sponsors...
They found out that money is to be had from us.

  4. But still I would have to ask which side will these Trans and G & L officers be on when the shit hits the fan. Just a matter of time not if. I believe they will be like the Kapo's of old who worked against their own people to save their own skins and corporate HRC and other non-profits will line up right with them. I started marching in 1971 right after the first march when I was on the West Coast. By 73 I as back in NYC. I was at the PRIDE when Sylvia was booed on the stage by nice white G and L folks. I know she and Marsha and many others marched that year with S.T.A.R. Yes and I know all about the fight by "straight" G and L folks to exclude because they didn't want to upset the straight world. My goodness what would Mommy think to see a big black drag queen??? You know the story as well as I. I also am well aware of who I and others fought against in Hartford Ct. when the co-chair of the CCLG Civil Rights wouldn't include Bisexuals and Transgender folks in the civil rights bill. But no one, not one of our people were such a threatening presence to others as the cops are. Last year I supported the No Justice No Pride folks as they sat down in front of the Stonewall blocking the Cops. They were arrested to the cheers of the nice LGBT folks watching from the side. History lost? History not known by so many. I would suggest for anyone who would like to know the history of the cops vrs. us to go to my blog www.furbirdsqueerly.wordpress.com and find the 3 part essay on the Cops and us. A very interesting story. Did I go to Middletown Pride. No I did not. I was on vacation in Vermont. Would I have gone if I was home? Most likely not as I had some real issues with how that pride was set up, who ran it and what they charged. I would also have been more upset with the large police attendance and the over the top military weapon on the scene. I wish I was in NYC today but am in the process of moving out of this area. No more Richard to tweak and be a thorn in the foot of those who think all is okay, that they are the supreme leaders of the LGBTQI+ movement.
