70th Birthday Reunion

I know I’m as old as dirt; my high school class had a get together last night to celebrate the class turning seventy years old.

I was very undecided whether I should go or not because my invitation came with my deadname and since everyone knew that I had transitioned I wondered if it was a slight. As I was standing in line to fill out a name tag one of my classmates came up and said she was very sorry for the error and that the database has been corrected.

None of my close friends from high school came but as I circulated around I got a number of hugs from classmates and I was invited me to sit at the “Doe Table” well I can’t say stage table because it was an unescorted women’s table except for one lone husband.

It was just another typical banquet type function… groups of people standing around talking in the same clique as in high school. So I was kind of an oddball because in high school the clique I hung out in were not there and also it was because the women’s group that I sat with all hung out together in high school so what they talked about was what they did together in high school, but I did learn some juicy tidbits from our high school… oh that was what really happened!

I volunteered to help out with the Fifty-fifth reunion.

Two of the best reasons why some didn’t come last night…

  • One was on a photo safari in Africa
  • Another was in a sailplane race

Seventy, the new fifty!

Observations:

  • Dress was casual and I wore an ankle length skirt, most of the women wore slacks, a couple wore dresses or skirts so I was dress appropriately for the occasion.
  • The guys walking around with canes were the “jocks.”
  • Those who were lushes in high school are lushes in their seventies.
  • Out of a class of 167, twenty-seven of us have gone to "Class Eternal."
  • New class motto… Stay alive ‘til 55 (We graduated in '67 so our 55 reunion will be 2022)
