Another Hatchet Job… The Harm Is Done

Another anti-trans book has come out, that as expected the conservatives praise and we say the book is biased, They say that we can’t stand to hear the true and around and around it goes.

In an excellent review in Science Based Medicine of the book by Abigail Shrier’s Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters by Dr Eckert, they list the failings of the book.

Irreversible Damage to the Trans Community: A Critical Review of Abigail Shrier’s book Irreversible Damage (Part One)

Irreversible Damage, a controversial 2020 book by Abigail Shrier, has enjoyed renewed attention in the last several weeks. Shrier appeals to her audience’s emotions by voicing their deepest fears to create uproar against an already marginalized community. The claims presented do not meet scientific rigor, yet have been praised and upheld by many, effectively pushing back against equal rights for gender minorities, and, more specifically, denying equitable healthcare for trans youth. This two-part review is based in a framework of evidence-based research and healthcare best practices to address, analyze, and dismantle Shrier’s arguments. It seeks to elucidate the historical and current medicalization of trans identities, present the nidus of widely-accepted yet debunked beliefs, and give context to the research and sources Shrier builds upon for her book.

In their review of the book  Dr Eckert referrers to J. Michael Bailey, the 2003 book, The Man Who Would Be Queen and the 2018 research by Lisa Littman of what she called “rapid onset gender dysphoria” (ROGD) both of them have been discredited by the scientific community but the problem is that the conservative don’t care what we say because they say “of course we wouldn’t like it we are biased.” and around and around it goes.

We know it trash and I think that they really know it is trash but the thing is the general public doesn’t. The harm is done and it is almost irreversible; I read this book that said...
