Laurel Hubbard is a transgender weightlifter from New Zealand, and she could very well make history this summer. Given her recent performances in the sport, it's quite likely that she will qualify for the Tokyo Olympics ahead of the May 31 qualifying deadline.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee is keeping its cards close to its chest about the subject, saying in a statement that the organization is "not in a position to comment on the likelihood of any athlete's selection until we have the necessary evidence," per NBC Sports.

Hubbard transitioned in her mid-30s and has been competing on an international level since 2017. Her accolades include a second-place finish at the world championships in 2017 and a sixth-place finish at the same competition in 2019. Overall, she ranks 16th in the 87+kg weight class for Olympic qualifying.

Weightlifting follows the International Olympic Committee's guidelines on transgender athletes, which allows those who transitioned from male to female if their total level of testosterone in serum is below 10 nanomoles per liter for at least a year. Additionally, the athlete must keep their declared gender identity for at least four years after it's been declared.
Okay,,, lets get ready for all of those crying conservatives who will protest her being in the Olympics, you know that there will be Republican backlash over this even through there has been extensive research done by the sports associations and medical associations the Republicans will still spread their baseless claims and their hate.

The Queen speaks… and everyone listens.

During her speech at the State Opening of Parliament, Queen Elizabeth II promised: “Measures will be brought forward to address racial and ethnic disparities and ban conversion therapy.”

The Queen added that her government “will strengthen and renew democracy and the constitution… protect freedom of speech and restore the balance of power between the executive, legislature and the courts.”

Following the Queen’s speech, Liz Truss, minister for women and equalities, confirmed in a statement that legislation would be brought forward following a public consultation.

She said: “As a global leader on LGBT+ rights, this government has always been committed to stamping out the practice of conversion therapy.

“We want to make sure that people in this country are protected, and these proposals mean nobody will be subjected to coercive and abhorrent conversion therapy.
Well we shall see how far Parliament goes in protecting us and how much they will sell out to “religious freedom.”
