The Right (Part 1)

From the far right yesterday they organized a “Straight Pride” which wasn't anything like pride, from news accounts it was more like a white supremacist or a Trump rally.
'Straight Pride' parade in Boston draws counterprotesters

A "Straight Pride" parade in downtown Boston attracted counterprotesters -- and a heavy police presence -- resulting in almost three dozen arrests.

A large number of counterprotesters taunted marchers Saturday and chanted "Alt right, get off our streets, no justice, no peace." Counterprotesters outnumbered the parade participants, CNN affiliate WCVB reported. Boston's mayor also condemned the parade, and encouraged residents to attend block parties and other events that celebrated the city.

Floats and signs expressed pro-military and pro-Trump sentiments, such as "Support our troops" and "Build the wall and crime will fall." A man in a jester's hat carried a sign saying "Great to be straight" as he danced down the street.
And according to the article there was a trans person marching with them.

Curve magazine points out that we need to take them seriously because of the hate they espouse.
Straight Pride Parade: It’s Not Exactly A Laughing Matter
A ‘straight pride parade’? I never stop being thoroughly entertained by straight people.
By Shaley Howard
August 28, 2019

When I heard about this, I found myself laughing thinking it was some sort of ridiculous joke. Until I realized that no, it is a thing and a thing scheduled in Boston this month. My first thoughts were well of course straight people need a parade. I mean gay people, enough already! You have the whole month of June?! Enough with the rainbows! What about the straight people dammit!?  I mean, it’s not as if everything in this culture is oriented for straight people, right? The horror of a month without heterosexuals’ front and center. I just get sooooo sick of waking up to story after story about the heterophobic attacks on the straight people! Said no one ever.

The organizers of the ‘straight’ parade insist it’s not about mocking LGBTQ+ people or homophobia, anti-choice, sexism or racism. It’s simply that they are discriminated against and are fighting for their ‘rights’ as straight people. When hearing this I had to think hard, really hard, as to what ‘rights’ exactly straight people are being denied. Still trying to come up with something.  Apparently, I missed the memo that straight people are discriminated against and oppressed since every single thing in this culture screams heteronormative privilege and rights. But now we get to put up with, “We’re here! We’re Straight! We need more attention!”, and “Hey-Hey! Ho-Ho! Heterophobia has got to go!” Yes, apparently ‘Heterophobia’ is a real thing too. Who knew?
[…]
Let’s be clear, this entire organization and ‘straight pride’ parade is a ruse. A strategic, well-organized operation rooted in white supremacist, anti-LGBT, sexist propaganda, with the obvious intent to push their agenda while talking out of their ass about unity and equality. It’s insane, ridiculous and obscene. I can’t decide if I should be laughing or screaming at the top of my lungs. Heterosexual discrimination? Seriously?

Are cis-gendered, straight people fired for being straight? Are they bullied for being heterosexual? Are cis-gendered, straight people ever, EVER targeted for harassment solely because of their sexual orientation or gender identity?  Can straight people hold hands in public without the fear of any slight or overt confrontation?  Do straight people have the Trump administration trying to legally ban them from the military? Will there be people with bullhorns at their parade yelling that ‘straight people are gonna burn in hell’?  Are heterosexuals ever murdered solely because of their gender identity or sexual orientation?
As the article says, the march was a sham to hide their white supremacist, anti-LGBT, and misogyny agenda.
So, what to do? Should we protest? Ignore it? Should we hold positive LGBTQ+ rallies at the same time? Most of the time I think simply ignoring hate mongers and not giving them attention works quite well. The issue I’m having is this group is rooted in alt-right hate that runs deep. And as implausible as it seems to assume no one will really take this seriously, I remind myself I also thought someone like Trump would never become president.
My answer is vote! Vote out all those politicians from any party that endorses hate, that try to criminalize a women’s right to control their own bodies, that tries to criminalize LGBT people, that forces people who are different out of our country and criminalize our First Amendment right to assemble.

Some Republicans have seen the light… somewhat.
Log Cabin members resign after LGBTQ Republican group endorses Trump for 2020
LGBTQ Republicans are slamming Log Cabin for endorsing a president whose administration has worked to rollback equality
By Rhuaridh Marr on August 20, 2019

Members of the nation’s largest LGBTQ Republican organization are abandoning ship after its board opted to endorse Donald Trump for reelection in 2020.

Thus far, at least three high-profile Log Cabin Republican members have publicly resigned in protest over a decision last week to endorse Trump, despite his administration’s sustained attacks on LGBTQ rights and equality.

Log Cabin chairman Robert Kabel and vice chairwoman Jill Homan wrote an opinion piece for the Washington Post last week saying that Trump had taken “bold actions that benefit the LGBTQ community.”

They argued that tax cuts, a handful of openly LGBTQ appointments, and Trump’s heavily criticized trade policies were reason enough to endorse him for 2020, ignoring the large number of anti-LGBTQ actions his administration has taken since his presidency began.
They only care about their pocketbook, some overlook the xenophobia, Islamophobia, misogyny, and the white nationalism and just vote for “what’s in it for me” while others endorse the hate.

The Republicans use that hate to raise campaign donations and rally their base.
Louisiana governor's race ad takes aim at transgender rights

BATON ROUGE, La. — Republican candidate for Louisiana governor Ralph Abraham has released a new TV ad that takes aim at abortion rights and the transgender community as he works to draw attention for his campaign.

In the 30-second spot launched Thursday, the three-term congressman looks directly into the camera to establish what he calls "the truth."

The conservative hits several points in quick succession, declaring that "life begins at conception," taxes are too high and he supports President Donald Trump.

With a chuckle, he wraps up with a swipe at the LGBTQ community: "And as a doctor, I can assure you there are only two genders."
We are the door mats that the Republicans wipe their feet on. We are the whipping boy of the Republican party.

There is only one way to end this oppression… vote!
