A Few Ruin It For The Many

I am going to moderated comments because of some Anonymous commenters who use derogatory language. They use words that are hurtful to some people and I will not allow that type of language on my blog. I will continue to allow comments that are respectful of others, they can disagree with what I write and I will publish their comments, as long as they are respectful of others.

Like other oppressed communities there are some who feel that they are better than others in the community. They have a need to separate themselves from others in the community… “I am not like those people.” And unfortunately, the transgender community is not immune to that trait. There are some who put themselves on a pedestal, many of them can go out into society and pass, they can afford the hundreds of hours of electrolysis, they can afford surgery, and they put down all those who cannot. We in the transgender community share common traits, we all face discrimination, we all face the possibility of losing our jobs, we all face becoming victims of violence and we all cross the gender barrier.

Back in the 60s, 70s and 80s, the gay and lesbian communities when through the same phase, it was the era of assimilation, their message was to encourage gay people to "act normal" and fit in to society,
“That we are just like you." The masculine lesbian woman or the feminine gay man were not welcome. The trans-community is going through that phase now, where the elitists do not want to include any one to the party that does not fit their imagine of a “transsexual”

As I said, I will allow all comments that are respectful and do not use derogatory words for crossdressers or use name calling.

  1. Oh, I'm so sorry you have to moderate for these reasons.

  2. I went back through several of your most recent blogs and found nothing but positive reviews.

Where is all this imagined "hate"?

  3. Just an observation and an opinion but if you all weren't so obsessed and precious with this you wouldn't be at risk of losing your job. Censorship such as yours, where you alone determine what views are expressed does little to promote proper discussion. Instead it merely reinforces the opinion of many that transvestites feel they are above criticism and should be treated as some special case. That you refer to "transsexual" to disguise your proclivities is yet another sign of the same. You may make comment about hurtful words but clearly among your type it is the truth that hurts you the most. Perhaps somewhere out there is someone who is courageous enough to have a frank and open discussion but you are not the one, you want only backslapping and the congratulations of your few - very few - disciples.

  4. HB – I never said hate, I said that they were elitists.

Anonymous – I am not the only one who says that word transvestite is demeaning. And I am not the only one to believe it is derogatory, GAAD’s media guide http://www.glaad.org/reference/transgender says, “Transvestite Derogatory see Cross-Dressing.” I believe that those persons from the trans-community who use the word transvestites for crossdresser do so knowing that it is considered demeaning.

The comment that I deleted called my friend a name that you would expect to hear on an elementary school playground. I will not allow personal attacks on my blog. If you want to have “a frank and open discussion” you may do so, but without using demeaning and derogatory words to describe crossdressers. As I said in my blog post, the transgender community share common traits, we all face discrimination, we all face the possibility of losing our jobs, we all face becoming victims of violence and we all cross the gender barrier. And that includes, crossdressers, drag queen/king, we all face the dangers in not dressing according to our birth gender.
