Remember It Is About The Children.

Well that’s just another Republican lie, Missouri just banned all trans healthcare! Children and adults.
House Republicans approved a prohibition on transgender medicine without grandfather clause or sunset provision that were key to the bill clearing the Senate

Differences between the House and Senate on how strict a ban on certain transgender health care should be could spell trouble for the proposal’s chances as the Missouri legislative session nears completion.

Republican leaders in both chambers told reporters on Thursday that they wanted their versions passed and sent to the governor.

The Senate passed a version last month that allows transgender minors currently receiving care to continue treatments and includes an expiration date for the ban on hormone therapy. Both provisions were included as a compromise to end a Democratic filibuster.
The Missouri Senate returned from its spring break Monday with Democrats resuming their filibuster of a bill that would ban gender-affirming care for transgender children.

The Senate reconvened to debate legislation sponsored by Sen. Holly Thompson-Rehder, R-Scott City, that began as a ban on transgender girls participating in school sports but was expanded to include prohibitions on medical procedures for transgender minors. They expressed disappointment in the decision to go to Thompson-Rehder’s bill, arguing that adding the transgender health care provision could it runs afoul of constitutional provisions that limit a bill to one subject and bar amendments from changing a bill’s purpose.

“If we pass a bill like this, with those two together, and it passed the House and was sent to the governor, that there could be a lawsuit?” Sen. Rick Brattin, R-Harrisonville, asked Moon.
The Republicans are always conniving to dance their way around the law.
During Thursday’s debate, Democrats pleaded with Republicans to break from their stated positions and vote against the bill.

Rep. Barbara Phifer, D-St. Louis, said she has a trangender grandson who she worries won’t be able to remain in Missouri or visit her if the House bill becomes law.

Rep. Ian Mackey, D-St. Louis, accused Republicans of putting politics over transgender children and their families.

“You’re all seeing a lot of emotion right now. A lot of frustration and a lot of pain,” Rep. Peter Merideth, D-St. Louis said. “I know you don’t get it.”

He said it is difficult maintaining friendships with legislators who vote counter to him on issues such as gender-affirming care.

“This is as personal as it gets and if it’s not about you and your child, you should be listening to the people it is about and not deciding that you, government, know better than them and their doctors about their complex, personal journeys,” he said.
What can I add to “A lot of frustration and a lot of pain” they just don’t care about what they are doing as they steamroll their animosity against us all for political points.

It is all about the kids… yeah right!

Florida is very, very concerned about kids. You only have to look at the legislation making its way through Tallahassee to know that. Just this week, for example, the state Senate approved the grandly named Protection of Children Act.

Is it an act to help keep children safe from gun violence, the No. 1 killer of kids? Or legislation to make sure kids don’t go hungry? After all, about 23% of children in Florida live in households where there’s not enough food for every family member to lead a healthy life.

Or maybe it’s a law to ensure that children have better access to healthcare, to protect them from the ravages of childhood diseases. Or an act to protect them from online bullying, or one designed to protect their mental health through suicide prevention.

Any of those would make sense.

But no. This is Florida, so that legislation is about drag queens. Not guns. Not hunger. Not suicide or bullying. Drag queens.

And when we crack down on Disney, it’s not because the company had the temerity to oppose the state’s “Don’t say gay” law. It’s because Disney, as Gov. Ron DeSantis would have us believe, is a purveyor of “woke” ideology that injects inappropriate content into children’s entertainment and must be brought to heel.

Translation: It’s for the kids.

But it’s not. It’s for the adults. Lawmakers, to be specific.

Their lies are getting thin and more transparent.

Then the editorials hits the nail right on its head!

Kids are a smokescreen here, a straw man. This is a political calculus aimed at getting votes — it’s that simple. Republicans have seen that amping up the culture war works. Tapping into simmering grievances or worries pays political dividends, especially when it comes to kids, and even if it continues to damage any chance of real, across-the-aisle discourse.
