I Didn’t Know

And I go there for my hormones and endo care. So I was surprised when I was googling something and it came up in the search…
Transgender Services
Middlesex Hospital
PRIMARY CARE
It’s a fact that a high percentage of LBGTQ individuals do not have a primary care physician and do not seek to establish this very important medical relationship.  The reasons for this are varied, but at Middlesex Hospital, through its network of primary care physicians, we want to change this statistic.   Our providers welcome the opportunity to work with you on your well-being, if you become ill.  Our primary care offices provide a safe, welcoming environment and the physician’s relationship with you is individualized to meet your specific needs.

HORMONE THERAPY
Prescribing gender-affirming hormones is well within the scope of practice of primary care physicians, endocrinologists, advanced practice nurses, and physician assistants. At Middlesex Hospital, we are pleased to have Kathryn Tierney, M.S.N, A.P.R.N.-B.C., lead our gender-affirming hormone therapy program, in collaboration her colleagues in endocrinology and within our network of primary care physicians.

GENDER TRANSITION SURGERY
Our surgical specialists in gynecology, urology, and plastic surgery bring expertise, experience and compassion to a host of feminizing and masculinizing surgical procedures for our transgender patients.

INFECTIOUS DISEASE TESTING AND TREATMENT
Our Infectious Disease specialists (part of the Middlesex Multispecialty Group) can provide special insight and expertise regarding the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infections of all types including: HIV and chronic Hepatitis B and C.

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES
Gender non-conforming/transgender individuals can feel a strong conflict between their gender (inner sense of who they are) and their physical sex characteristics. This conflict can sometimes manifest itself in depression, isolation and destructive behaviors. Middlesex Hospital’s psychiatrists and behavioral health clinicians are available and trained to help individual, couples and families work through the issues, to lead emotionally healthy lives.
I knew Yale/New Haven hospital was forming a gender clinic including a surgeon who is doing Gender Confirming Surgery but I hadn’t heard a word about Middlesex Hospital.

I did take part in a panel discussion there but I didn’t know that it was to lay the ground work for the clinic.
