One politician who is running for president attended a conference where a pastor called for the annihilation of gays; the Right Wing Watch reports that,
There are those who say that they vote Republican because they are fiscally conservative but for me I cannot vote for a party that is morally corrupt. A party that stands by and does nothing when people call for our execution, a party that lies about us, a party that uses hate and fear to win elections. Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott a said in a tweet “No men in women's bathrooms.”
A party that kept quiet about ads like this…
When three Republican presidential candidates decided to address a conference in Iowa this weekend organized by Colorado pastor Kevin Swanson — a radical activist who thinks that Girl Scout cookies and the movie “Frozen” are turning girls into lesbians and has defended the death penalty for homosexuality — it showed once again that the Republican primary seems to be a competition of who can move farther to the right.Meanwhile at the other end of the spectrum President Obama is calling for legislation to protect our rights. The Washington Post reported that,
Swanson cleverly focused his Iowa conference on the theme of “religious liberties,” warning that “persecution against Christians is on the rise in Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sudan, China, Oregon, and Kentucky.” It was apparently an invitation that Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee and Bobby Jindal — who are constantly harping on the theme that American Christians are on the road to facing persecution on par with Christians living under oppressive regimes — couldn’t pass up.
The White House endorsed legislation Tuesday that would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. One party wants to demonize us, calling us perverts and child molesters, which thinks nothing of lying to create fear and panic. While the other party in the spirit of the Civil Rights movement wants us from discrimination and violence.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the Obama administration had been reviewing the bill “for several weeks.”
“Upon that review it is now clear that the administration strongly supports the Equality Act,” he said. “That bill is historic legislation that would advance the cause of equality for millions of Americans.
“We look forward to working with Congress to ensure that the legislative process produces a result that balances both the bedrock principles of civil rights . . . with the religious liberty that we hold dear in this country,” Earnest added.
