It Doesn’t Look Good.

No it doesn’t as more and more information about the Speaker of the House, the number 2 man to the presidency. It is scary!

In the week since Republicans voted unanimously to elect Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) the Speaker of the House, LGBTQ lawmakers and civil rights advocates have criticized the once little-known congressman’s conservative record on same-sex marriage and transgender rights and questioned his ability to lead the House on LGBTQ issues with impartiality.

His background suggests he may allow a controversial bill to come to the floor.

As an attorney and former spokesperson for the conservative Christian legal group Alliance Defending Freedom, Johnson authored op-eds that advocated for the criminalization of gay sex and suggested that legalizing same-sex marriage could lead to people marrying their pets.
You see he things that he is on a mission from god, he is the type that burned Joan of Arc at the stake.
Johnson last year, while unveiling the bill, said the measure was needed to stop a Democratic “crusade to immerse young children in sexual imagery and radical gender ideology.”

[…]

And in July, a House Judiciary subcommittee chaired by Johnson held a hearing to “examine and expose” the alleged dangers of gender-affirming health care for transgender minors. Johnson in his opening statement said children are being coerced into believing they are transgender by teachers and progressive media and “mutilated” by doctors.

“Something has gone terribly wrong, and deep down everybody in this country knows it,” Johnson said.
No, the next couple of years are going to be dark. He is know for tying in anti-LGBTQ amendments to bill that must pass. The British newspaper Guardian reported…
Mike Johnson, theocrat: the House speaker and a plot against America
Second-in-line to the presidency, the Republican makes claims about the constitution and Christianity, and his wish to impose his faith on others, that do not withstand serious scrutiny

The new House speaker, Mike Johnson, knows how he will rule: according to his Bible. When asked on Fox News how he would make public policy, he replied: “Well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it. That’s my worldview.” But it’s taking time for the full significance of that statement to sink in. Johnson is in fact a believer in scriptural originalism, the view that the Bible is the truth and the sole legitimate source for public policy.

Johnson’s inerrant biblical truth leads him to reject science. Johnson was a “young earth creationist”, holding that a literal reading of Genesis means that the earth is only a few thousand years old and humans walked alongside dinosaurs. He has been the attorney for and partner in Kentucky’s Creation Museum and Ark amusement park, which present these beliefs as scientific fact, a familiar sleight of hand where the end (garnering more believers) justifies the means (lying about science). For them, the end always justifies the means. That’s why they don’t even blink when non-believers suffer for their dogma.
Remember: Second-in-line! You know when it was Muslims who believed in a theocracy we called them the Taliban.
When rulers insist the law should be driven by a particular religious viewpoint, they are systematizing their beliefs and imposing a theocracy. We have thousands of religious sects in the US and there is no religious majority, but we now have a politically fervent conservative religious movement of Christian nationalists intent on shaping policy to match their understanding of God and theirs alone. The Republicans who elected Johnson speaker, by a unanimous vote, have aligned themselves with total political rule by an intolerant religious sect.

Remember: Second-in-line!

We are going to see some very bleak times ahead of us, you can bet your bottom dollar you will see anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-abortion legislation coming out of the House. They will be added as amendments or riders to bills. You will see anything remotely pro-LGBTQ+ and women’s rights coming out of the Senate tabled.
