They Will Be Picking A Jury

I was picked for a jury and we rebelled!

With the murder of Kirk they will be picking an impartial jury, if they can. With all the rhetoric coming out of the conservatives it is now at a level where it can interfere with the selection of the jury. It is just not the usual news coverage but also Trump using words like, “radical left lunatics,” “hateful and despicable,” and “radical left political violence” and he said about the suspect “an animal,” “vicious,” and “horrible.”

Change of venue? I think anywhere on Earth the people have heard about the murder.
Jury instructions? Oh yeah… forget everything you heard from politicians and the news! Yeah, that will work… right!
Gag orders / limiting statements? Right… Trump is going to shut up!

Okay, voir dire and looking for those who can be impartial. So who will likely make up the juror? The trick is to find jurors who are both “unbiased” and yet informed enough to understand the social and political context of the case? Then the jurors will most likely don’t know the rhetorical climate — who haven’t heard the propaganda — won’t recognize when a defendant is being railroaded for political reasons.

And jurors who won’t mind being sequestered for a month away from family, work… and no internet. In social isolation for weeks!

We have just begun the circus! Then… then… we can have a hung jury and do it all over again!

Oh, yeah… my jury rebellion!

We were picked, the lawyers were in a meeting, we sat there in the jury room and while we were waiting they showed the movie "The Help" well 3/4 though the movie they came out and said that the lawyer reached a settlement and we could go home.

We said no way... the movie still had 30 minutes left. And we sat there watching the movie.

I suppose this will be akin to an all-white jury deciding the fate of a young black man accused of a crime. What I find reprehensible is the daily release of information concerning evidence that has been processed. The rhetoric from top (Trump) on down is rendering an inability to find twelve unbiased jurors.
