But it was a good email. It was an automated email says one of the bills that I am following and testified in favor of passed the House… we are officially heading for the Senate!
The bill,
Yup, it passed with a vote of… Total Number Voting 143, Necessary for passage 72, Those voting Yea 124, Those voting Nay 19, Those absent and not voting 8.To prohibit long-term care facilities or long-term care facility staff from discriminating against any long-term care facility resident on the basis of such resident's actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or human immunodeficiency virus status.
You want to guess who were those that voted Nay were? Well one of them was my state representative who is MAGA through and through. The Republicans introduced three amendments aimed to gut the bill but none of them passed, there were Republicans who voted for the bill without the killer amendmemts. However there was a joint amendment that was passed.
So on to the Senate… it is too early for a Senate file number yet.
The photo is from my desk where I did my first internship at She Leads Justice (formerly Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund (CWEALF)) their office was at the corner of Farmington Ave and Broad St. in the YWCA building.
