On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…
On August 9th, it 54F, I got two blankets on my bed and Monday it is going to be in the 90s
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
This month we're going to recall Summer Songs. These will all be records that topped the charts during August.
1) Number 1 on the charts in August 40 years ago, the lyrics to "Shout" encourage us to "let it all out." When is the last time you raised your voice?
I don’t think that I have ever raised my voice in my adult life… now if you mean spoke up over injustices, just about everyday.
2) This week's featured artists, Tears for Fears, were a duo -- Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith -- who met as teenagers in Bath, the largest city in Somerset, England. Bath has been named one of The Great Spa Towns of Europe. Popular spa treatments include massages, facials, body scrubs and wraps, mineral baths, manicures and pedicures. If you could treat yourself to a spa treatment today, which would you choose?
As I am shivering right now, I’ll settle for soaking in a hot tub.
3) When they first met, one of the things Roland and Curt bonded over was that they were both raised by single mothers. Who was your best friend during your teen years? What did you two bond over?
It was over science, I later saw him at my high school class celebration of our 70th birthdays.
4) Curt's wife, Frances Pennington, has had a long career in marketing, beginning in the record business and transitioning to fashion. Which industry do you think you'd enjoy more -- music or fashion?
Between the two… music. My idea of fashion is what tee goes with these jeans.
5) Roland married his childhood sweetheart, Caroline Johnston. They were together for 35 years, until her death. Do you know whatever became of your childhood sweetheart?
Yeah, she married for money. She went into nursing. Then medical research, then married the president of the company.
Let's look at the summer of 1985.
6) That summer, Chicago teenager Balu Natarajan won the National Spelling Bee. Are you a good speller?
I am horrible! I once tried learning sign language and I was horrible at it because of spelling… I got a lot of “Hun?”
7) Tinker Bell took her first nightly flight at Walt Disney World in Florida. Do you recall which Disney movie introduced us to Tinker Bell?
No… that was a long, long time ago. I remember the opening of the TV show had Tinker Bell flying around so that was the late 50s early 60s.
8) Derek Hough was a baby in the summer of 1985. In 2007 he became a regular on Dancing with the Stars, acclaimed for his ballroom dancing. Are you good on the dance floor?
The two of us never meet. Me and a dance floor… no way!
9) In 1985, Michael J. Fox became the first actor to have the #1 movie at the box office and the #1 TV show in the ratings. The movie was Back to the Future and the TV show was Family Ties. Have you seen the movie? Were you a fan of the show?
Yes, I seen the movies, no I haven’t seen Family Ties.
I used to be friends with the person who took care of Michael’s properties in Sharon CT, New York City, Quogue, Long Island, and Nantucket.
Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Tees and jeans, that always works
ReplyDeleteI hope you have warmed up! You aren't getting sick are you? I sound like my mom...hahahaha. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

Interesting that you interpreted #1 as being about anger. Other Sat 9ers mentioned cheering sporting events or calling out to neighbors. These questions can be like a Rorschach test, can't they?
ReplyDeleteBeing a married man I have to raise my voice everyday. Peter Pan Thinkerbell debut? Never could spell or dance. Took ten lessons at Fred Astaire studio too. After fifty plus years still in touch with my old flame. When the wife isn’t around I call her.
ReplyDeleteMy gut reaction to #1 was anger, also, but I realized I was excited earlier this week and whooped! You're having Maine weather! 54 in the morning and 90 in the afternoon.
ReplyDeleteThe late 50's early 60's showed The Wonderful World of Disney, at least that is what comes to mind. I remember watching it on Sunday evenings and I think Tinkerbell was in it. That was a long time ago. I am going to be 70 on Tuesday, so that was a long time ago!
ReplyDeleteYou should learn to box step. Even my husband can do a box step. :-)
