And I Bet It Will Increase Even More This Year

The FBI released their hate crime data for 2016 this week and there were no surprises, we are being killed, assaulted, and harassed more last year.

A new FBI report reveals hate crimes against the LGBT community are on the rise, particularly against transgender people.

Compiling data from more than 15,000 law enforcement agencies around the country, the Bureau’s 2016 Hate Crimes and Statistics report, indicates there were 6,121 hate crimes in all 2016—an increase of 5% from 2015.

Of the single-bias incidents, of which there were 6,063, 1,076 (17.7%) were motivated by sexual orientation, a 2% increase from 2015. Additionally, 124 incidents (2%) were motivated by the victim’s real or perceived gender identity.

The report differentiated between crimes against trans Americans and those who are gender-nonconforming: Anti-trans crimes increased from 73 to 105 between 2015 and 2016, a jump of nearly 43%. (Crimes against gender-nonconforming Americans actually decreased year-to-year.)
I have to wonder if the Trump administration will continue breaking out the date on LGBT and trans hate crimes or will we be listed under the “other” category?

The way the Trump administration has been erasing anything LGBT it wouldn’t doubt it.
