Don’t Paint With A Broad Brush

We all have a tendency to paint groups with a broad brush, in this case… all religions hate us! Which is not true and more of them are becoming inclusive.
The United Methodist Church has appointed a transgender deacon

The bishop spoke the traditional words as she laid her hands on the new deacon named M with just a slight difference from the way those words have always been spoken before.

“Pour out your holy spirit upon M,” she said. “Send them now to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, to announce the reign of God and to equip the church for ministry.”

Not “send him now” or “send her now.” “Send them now.”

That’s what M Barclay has been working for 12 years to finally hear.

Barclay, a transgender person who identifies as neither male nor female and thus uses the pronoun “they,” was commissioned on Sunday as the first non-binary member of the clergy in the United Methodist Church.
If you are a regular reader of my blog you know this is a common theme, we had over two hundred parishes that supported our gender inclusive non-discrimination bill here in Connecticut which far outweighed those parishes that were against us. We even had a bishop testify in favor of the bill.

If you hate religions that is one thing but if you hate them because they are anti-trans then please don’t because many and many more are joining affirming churches every day.

  1. Six years ago my brother was ordained as a Deacon by the Cardinal. As a new Roman Catholic Deacon he was called upon to select a special ministry. With the agreement and blessing of the Cardinal he chose the ministry of making members of the LGBT community welcome in the Church.
