Do you remember that on Tuesday I posted a blog on the two news reports, one the Trump was keeping the Obama’s Executive Order in place that banned discrimination against LGBT employees and the other article about how he was going to scrap the EO. Well now we know how he is going to weasel around it.

All you have to do is just say it is against my beliefs. What that means is you call for an ambulance because you are having chest pains that might be a heart attack, the EMTs arrive and see that you are trans and walk away. They say it is against their beliefs to treat a trans person and there is nothing your relatives can do except to attend your funeral.

WASHINGTON — Reports state that President Trump might soon issue an executive order protecting the rights of religious groups following his decision to keep an Obama-era order banning groups that contract with the federal government from “discriminating” against homosexuals and transgenders in their business or non-profit organization.
The outlet The Nation obtained a leaked copy of the order, which allegedly protects faith-based entities “when providing social services, education, or healthcare; earning a living, seeking a job, or employing others; receiving government grants or contracts; or otherwise participating in the marketplace, the public square, or interfacing with federal, state or local governments.”
It also reportedly protects the tax-exempt status of any group that “believes, speaks, or acts (or declines to act) in accordance with the belief that marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, sexual relations are properly reserved for such a marriage, male and female and their equivalents refer to an individual’s immutable biological sex as objectively determined by anatomy, physiology, or genetics at or before birth, and that human life begins at conception and merits protection at all stages of life.”What that means is if you go to a homeless shelter they can put you in the section for your birth gender so that you can be beaten up and or raped.
While any such EO will no doubt create fresh chaos and increase risks for us all, the leaked copy was of so broad a nature that it would likely be held unconstitutional on a number of grounds.
ReplyDeleteI think too that the White House may underestimate the power of unintended consequences. What is good for the goose is good for the gander and bigots may suddenly find themselves shut out of services based on the good-faith beliefs of good-hearted people.
All Trump's stuff has little effect on tort law. Standards of care are changing and an individual may take a legal action that is nevertheless negligent. Rising insurance costs, resulting from adverse tort claims, have done as much to improve bad things as state and federal legislation.
Not the way I'd like to see it shake out but there is always opportunity in chaos.
One monkey don't stop the show. There is being introduced in the House and Senate a new version of the "religious freedom" bill so it really won't matter if Trump signs it or not. The executive order creates wholesale exemptions for people or organizations who claim moral or religious objections to same-sex marriage, trans-identity, premarital sex, abortion. The best article that I read along with the draft order was found in the Nation magazine. Lot's of questions remain and lot's of education is needed. Once the ball gets rolling and the republican controlled house and senate does their bill there will be no stopping this madness. The court forget it. It is indeed all over but the fighting and we can't really expect the higher ups who are Impotent to help much.

Diana have you seen the new facebook page for Ct. Resistance to Trump Administration "religious Freedom" executive order? You should have gotten the e-mail. Good place for folks to start as good things are coming out of this group already. Would you mind directing your readers to the page.
