Labels

Most of the time we don’t get to choose the labels that are pinned on us and that is especially true in death. The two people that were shot at the NSA is a case in point. The first reports from the news labeled them “men in dresses” and made it sound like they were terrorists storming the gates at the NSA headquarters, but that is the farthest from the truth.
NSA Transgender Tragedy and Major Media Insensitivity.

Recently two Transgender women were shot to death because they made a wrong turn and did not listen to or possibly did not understand the commands of the guards at the gate of the NSA.*  That was unfortunate.  The tragedy is in a day and age where the non PC complain that people are too PC and the PC proclaim that they are sensitive major media continue to identify those two as "men dressed as women".  With the notable exception of Reuters, all other media did not even mention the chance they were trans.
[…]
We should not be too quick to label them as transwomen... many people who embrace a non-binary gender identity don't fully identify with one or the other gender 100% or 100% of the time.  I for one Identify as more two-spirited, I am comfortably non binary mentally if not in presentation.
Ms. Farmer is right, we do not have the right to label them, and the media has labeled them in the most derogatory way possible.

The Washington Post said,
The FBI said the attack did not appear to be planned or related to terrorism. A gun and cocaine were found in the SUV.

“I know she wasn’t in the right head-space when she was in that car,” Leonard [he had known Hall for about eight months] said. “She doesn’t even know how to drive like that. She doesn’t have a license … it’s not like she was a pro at driving and could steal cars.”
They were just two stoned trans women who made a wrong turn and panicked.
