Assume kinship/friendship with another trans-person

Yesterday I went walking with a friend on a local rail-to-trail path out in the middle of nowhere when a bicyclist passed us going the other way and we said hi. After walking another mile he passed us going the same way, slowed and circled back and asked if we were transgender. Then asked if we were transsexuals and he said that he was a crossdresser. We then learned his life history. As he rode off twenty minutes later we rolled our eyes and continued walking.
