Some Times You Don’t See Until You Open Your Eyes…

On Pam’s House Blend a person posted a diary that opened my eyes, about something that I never thought about.

The diary is about close captioning on the internet. How many times have you watched a YouTube video and never gave any thought what it would be like if you were deaf. With more and more videos being posted every day on the internet, very, very few of them have closed captioning. This results in making the internet inaccessible to many hard of hearing and deaf people. But this doesn’t have to be, closed captioning is available for many of the video that are posted all they have to do is requested a captioned version of the video.

There is also a bill in the House to require closed captioning on the internet, it is H.R.3101 - Twenty-first Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2009.

Please contact your Representative and ask them to support this bill, and also read his Pam’s House Blend diary enter here.

Here is an example of a video with closed captioning, can turn on the captions by clicking the up arrow that brings up the menu and then clicking "CC".

  1. I read about this bill on Twitter, believe it or not. I follow actress Marlee Matlin and she is seeking support for this bill.
