God Hates Shrimp
Shrimp, crab, lobster, clams, mussels, all these are an abomination before the Lord, just as gays are an abomination. Why stop at protesting gay marriage? Bring all of God's law unto the heathens and the sodomites. We call upon all Christians to join the crusade against Long John Silver's and Red Lobster. Yea, even Popeye's shall be cleansed. The name of Bubba shall be anathema. We must stop the unbelievers from destroying the sanctity of our restaurants.

Leviticus 11:9-12 says:
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

Deuteronomy 14:9-10 says:
9 These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:
10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.

All kidding aside why do the people who persecute homosexuals and transgenders always quote the Bible but there are so many other things in the Bible that they totally ignore? Like shellfish or wearing fabric made up of two types of fibers or selling their daughter into slavery or divorce or marrying you brother’s wife if he should die (My favorite) or… I could go on and on but you get my point.
When you pick out just one part of the Bible to justify the persecution of homosexuals and transgenders individuals that makes you a bigot. The religious right wing conservatives are flooding Congress with email, letters and phone calls to stop the passage of ENDA. So contact your Congressperson let the know that you support ENDA and that you support a gender inclusive ENDA (HR2015)

  1. Actually, most of the Christians who are 'agin' homosexuality use Romans as the cornerstone, the Big Gun. New Testament trumps Old--Jesus replaced all the picky rules from Lev. and Deut.

Here's what Paul said (Note: NOT Jesus!!): "26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." (Romans 1:26-27 NIV).

Eugene Petersen translated v. 26 this way in The Message: "Worse followed. Refusing to know God, they soon didn't know how to be human either—women didn't know how to be women, men didn't know how to be men."

Having said that, if one does just a LITTLE research, one finds that the upper-class "cool" Romans of the time were practicing a lot of pedophilia and didn't have a lot of scruples about abuse of their slaves, and (this is the key) didn't count that as sex. Just something to do, y'know, eh? So was Paul against same-sex relations or against abuse? The argument goes on.

Paul didn't care, once he began to follow Christ, if you ate shrimp. Or if he did, it didn't make it into the NT.

Good God: if my husband dies, I have to marry his brother!? I like him fine, but...just NO! ;-)

  3. I'm laughing at Cat marrying her husband's brother!

It's the picking and choosing that kills me.

  4. It just seems like the rules out to be FAIR, eh? Like, if I die, my husband has to marry my sister. That, that right there, would stop a LOT of marriages from happening.

Anyway, this whole thing is nuts because all of this was 'invented' in a completely different culture from our own. Those of us who are old enough to remember the Nightmares of Women's Ordination in the late 60s/early 70s (I am barely), and the Ordination of Divorced People know that this too shall pass, but not without a lot of pain and suffering first.
